Hi everyone.

I've been doing a bit of work on an old mini, and in the process i acquired a spare shell. I put this shell on ebay and someone bought it to turn it into a piece of furniture (sofa with drinks cabinet in the boot). He said not to bother changing the v5 over to him and just to scrap it because its being cut up.

I've now started looking into scrapping it and have only just noticed that this is no longer an option on the v5. Looking online seems to suggest it has to be sent to an 'authorised dismantler' who have to issue a certificate of destruction.

How do I scrap it or am I going to have to sorn it for the rest of my life?

will cost you to have it towed or picked up to an authorised yard and get a Certificate of destruction
then send that off, no other way these days

Become an "authorised dismantler" and write your own certificate.

Assuming you've still got the buyer's details, just sign it over to him. What's to stop him changing his mind and using the shell for another vehicle...

I wonder if that's got something to do with why a neighbour up the road has spent the past 3 weekends cutting up an old Renault and putting it in a skip... Couldn't fathom what he was up to not just getting it towed Confused

So how dodgy is it to just change it over to some random name/address? The dvla wouldnt know if I or a new keeper had provided false details?

No idea but I guess your only real issue is not wanting to have to sorn it each year, I gather trade peeps don't have to sorn their vehicles so may just be worth doing that, not sure what's involved however?

Fill in V5 for Georgz Swalinskizi of some random address that doesn't exist. Like... go to the end of a road a few miles away, see the highest number and add 5.

He filled it in right?

Failing that, authorised dismantle guy is yourself. Thumbs Up

Now that we're living in The Future, I would seriously consider telling Plod that OH NOES IS BEEN STEELINGS and take it from there. Sad, but if we do it the approved way, the ecomentals will have won.

This is a tricky one.

Just don't SORN it ever again, when the DVLA ask questions, say you sent the logbook off to the new owner. Then THEY didn't get the mail.

And you forgot the buyers details. Thumbs Up

Either fill in the guy's details and send it off, or you could try declaring it as permanently exported.

Fill in the guys details as best you remember them. Wink Send forms to DVLA first class and if you are a bit paranoid / mental like me film yourself filling in and posting the paperwork and get proof of postage from the post office.

From what you said you sold the vehicle. I agree with the above, send off details of the buyer. When someone cleared my non working car from the drive I sent a cover letter saying I had sold it and these were the details as best as I could obtain but I could not guarantee their accuracy/validity.

You sold the car, if the buyer then wishes to scrap it the ball is in his/her court.

Thumbs Up

I don't know the last time anyone paid to have a car taken away. Do you want to pay me?

If the vehicle has any salvage value they will take it for free and maybe even pay you some money
but normally it costs more to strip the car than the spares value
if its a rusty hulk / non runner they most likely just crush it
my friend owns a scrap yard, he does salvage but once he's stripped the car he passes it on to an ATF to get the certificate

anyway thats a mute point as the OP does not have the car to scrap or have it dismantled
so no way to get a CoD only option is to "pass it on" and forget about it

Do you not think metal is worth money?

Any car these days will be picked up for a minimum of £100.

You're talking crap.
