Just been informed by a friend that the police starting from next week are doing SPEED CHECKS on A roads nationwide. Apparently they will be focusing on A roads because these aren't controlled as much.

Local to me they will be targeting A50 and A500 (standing on top of bridges) so be careful out there Thumbs Up

Police dont do 'National' speed check operations. Each force has its own agenda and targets.

Where did your friend get his information from?

I'm guessing this involves traffic cops sitting around with radar guns, or is it something more insidious?

Just under 700 were caught speeding in a heavily publicised 10 day crackdown on a 120 mile stretch of the A9. The two neighbouring forces co-operated because August apparently sees a peak in the incident rate.

The friend works on Eddie Stobart Cleaning depot, he got it off a trucker who found it out from someone else working for the police. I can't vouch for any of this information. But thought I would inform anyway if it saves someone from loosing their license then its done its job.

Apparently from what I've heard that is all what they will be doing.

A500 is a patrolzone anyhow. Very Happy

Thing is with these warnings, and even when a fact, by the time you've contacted the people you want to warn, the patrol has relocated. Unless it's a vehicle check, and they tend to do one side of the road in the morning and the other in the afternoon when doing those.

Ta anyway.

My mate works for W H Smith and knows a bloke who cleans coppers uniforms at the dry cleaners and he says this is bollox. Ride safe and if you get a speed ticket do not blame me.

Most probably bull as you and everyone else knows, but is it worth keeping it secret when it could help other people. Not sure but I'm not like that.

Don't think it Paddy's machine can reach that (Yam TT600R in sig., specs says 83 though!). Unless secretly modified or falling at terminal velocity Very Happy

On topic it's always useful to be careful as sometimes they're very open and in sight and other times do actually hide. Saw one police a bit back with speed gun but without hi-viz on standing in the shadow of a very large hedge (I was going the other way at the time).

If this is true are these new speed camera/radar/trap locations or are they already on the satnav POI databases?

Thumbs Up
