So, after turning my nose up at it, I tried it a few months ago, and now I really like the stuff. Pretty good for you too!

Anyone else on here like raw fish in and around their mouth?

Anyone make their own?

I liked it to begin with, but had a load of it in Vancouver and Seattle and now the thought of it makes me feel sick.

I went on a course on how to make Sushi some time last year, and had a really good laugh doing so. Once you've got the basic techniques down, it's actually pretty easy to do. The only thing that's a pain in the arse is dealing with the white vinegar/water/rice combination - it's really sticky, and your hands will be [b]covered/b] in starch by the end of it. Other than that, it's both fun and easy to make.

If it's on the reduced to clear shelf at Tescos I buy the lot, otherwise it's too expensive.

It's my favourite food. Sashimi in particular. Agree, it is way too expensive in the UK, so I don't eat it very much. That might be why it is my favourite....I don't get it enough!

In Australia Sushi rolls were very very popular for a decent lunch - the place I used to go had queues of over 100 people every day from 12-2pm. They used to employ people to keep the queue in order and not obstruct the doorways of other shops etc.

Three rolls would fill me up, most only had two, they were a good 4" long by 1.5" in diameter and worked out at around £1.50-1.75 each, free wasabi & soy. Fantastic they were. Tuna was excellent, as was the deep fried soft shell crab. Nom.

I like sushi but all the packs from Marks, Tesco, Sainsburys, Waitrose and most other places have cucumber in.

I am repulsed by cucumber. If it has been even near something I can't eat it. The smell makes me feel sick and if I was to ever eat some... There isn't enough mouthwash in the world to erase that pond scum tasting water sausage from my mouth.

I do eat it in restaurants, freshly made, after telling them I am 'allergic' to cucumber. I love it.

I had to eat it 5 times to like it. I am not into smoked salmon but like it grilled. At first my mind and tongue couldn't really figure out this sushi thing, and then on the 5th time, it just felt, right.

PS. That crap in Tesco's and Sainsbury isn't Sushi. Go to proper Sushi places that have a good reputation of freshness and be prepared to be amazed. It will be like riding a 50 cc Gilera to jumping onto a Triumph Speed Triple.

As a sea angler who has caught, killed and cleaned my own fish, there is no way on earth I will eat raw fish. I dare say I would like it if I tried it, but by cooking the fish, I know it is safe.

I love Sushi but it doesn't love me Crying or Very sad

The first time i had it (in Japan) I was violently ill the next day. I tried again a few months later and spent the majority of a 14 hour flight from Tokyo to LHR in the bog. Sick

I wish I could work out what I was allergic to so I could eat everything else.

I'm very partial to both Sushi and (especially) Sashimi. The last time I had really good Sashimi was in a Loch Fyne restaurant in Beaconsfield. Wasn't cheap, but boy-oh-boy was it gooooood!!

Being BCF's resident Koreaphile, I also love Kimbap (lit. seaweed rice), which is the Korean version of Maki rolls.

They (the Koreans) do put some odd stuff in there, like cheese (or even Spam), for example.

Kimbap is usually served with a very thick soya paste for dipping, and some Banchan (side dishes) like (the ubiquitous) Kimchi and pickled radish. I never encountered Wasabi/ginger over there, but the rolls seem to be much more flavoursome, and therefore don't require much additional seasoning.

Until recently there was a Yo Sushi place locally, where I'd occasionally get a bento box to take with me on a night shift - really love the stuff, but unfortunately the shop closed/moved.

I spent a number of years being over-cautious about trying it, but found that I really like most of it.... and the bento box was ideal for me, cos I could try a number of different types and flavours.

I keep telling myself that I should try to find an alternative, but as already mentioned, it can be expensive, so I'm back to being cautious about splashing the cash just to try out if the alternative is as good as Yo Sushi Wink
