My current car has a private reg and is insured as such till sept 24

Bought a new car, placed deposit, collecting on sept 24 to save insurance hastle

Dealer is sorting the plate transfer, where do I stand from an insurance point of view? If he changes it prior to the 24th my current car will be falsely insured and could set off the anpr cameras round here. If its after what reg do I insure.

Any one been in a similar position and able to help?

Change before the 24th (as close to as possible). It's not 'falsely' insured, but some of the details have changed. You should update with your insurer, but if you get pulled just show all your paperwork (including reg change) and you should be on your way.

Do you not get 7 days dealer insurance anyway?
That should cover you until the changes have come in to action

When I swapped mine over at the DVLA offices I did ask about insurance and getting stopped, etc. as I'd have to have a new plate made and fit it. I was told not to worry as they allow a leaway of a few weeks as this happens all the time.

Sadly I didn't get in writing and how that'd stand up I don't know. All I can say is that I did make all reasonable checks m'lud Wink

was told to insure the new car on the private reg and to drive the current car on the private reg until i hand it over

We have a cherished plate, and we had to photocopy tax, V5 and get a copy of insurance for the date when new car is being collected. All documents are being sent off today by garage and the new car will be collected on 15th with the new plate on. We have insurance for new car to start at midday so that old car car be driven fully insured to garage in order to collect new vehicle.
