 |

Im considering a fireblade, in particular a 58 plate example with 5k on the clock. Any opinions from riders/owners? Will be my first 1000cc bike and as its pretty much known as the best thou out there (prior to abs/tc etc etc) just would like to know what to expect power and handling wise in comparison to eg gsxr 750. I felt the power fairly controlable on the 750 like it never really felt like it was going to bite. The midrange grunt was there and nice but a little tame. How is the delivery on the cbr? I love torque, lots of torque in the midrange. Does the cbr have plenty of grunt??
Also any known issues ( ive read a bit about 08/09 using oil but this is a gamble with any bike/car thats has 'known' issues i suppose!)
How is the finish on the bike? Do they keep there appearance well on things like bolts/metalwork or are they a bit prone to corroding up a little etc.?
Any things specific to them to consider when looking for a good one appreciated

Well this was Beau.

She was an 08 blade that I owned from new. I only recently part exchanged her for a S1Krr.
I miss her at times.
The good points:- Very quick. Excellent handling. Lots of torque. The midrange power was awesome. Roll on in any gear and it would tear your arms out. Suprisingly roomy for the tall person like myself. A great selection of after market modifications available.
The bad:- Some, not many, but some burn oil. This problem can be reduced by using a slightly more viscous semi synth instead of the recommended full synth oil. The stock exhaust will discolour and rust. The paint is thin, especially around the tank. A couple of recalls needed on the 08-09 models, one being a radiator pipe and the other was clutch springs. Need to check they have been done.
But I think the greatest test of a bike is simply would I own one again? YES!. In a heartbeat.
Enjoy it.

My cousin has one. It's lovely, it's a bike that makes going very very fast seem very very easy. Fairly comfortable too. His last bike was an RC8 and it's light years better than that. ____________________ Triumph Daytona 675 track bike + girlfriend's Honda Hornet 600

Cheers Paddy but its the 08-10 revision im after only. Im a little bit peeved off that i dont have the option to change my insurance over. Got you by the balls but no way im going to sacrifice another years no claims when ive already paid for the cover for the year and im about 9 months into the policy.
I got a few quotes for a new policy to run alongside current one but obvilusy 0 no claims but its around £750 annually so would cost me about £240 plus a cancellation charge of prob around £50 and no doubt other financial shaftings for the few month so thats just not worth it either.
No other real option other than buy it and make sure it doesnt get stolen in the next 3 month or look into some kind of theft'fire only insurance, ie bikes off the road and just covered for fire/theft but doubt many places would do this and no doubt be not worth paying again. bugger. Insurance is wank. Now trying to convince myself i dont want a oil burning honda anyway |

Ok so ive been doing some investigating and it seems a company called SORNinsurance.co.uk will cover the bike purely for fire and theft for a very reasonable amount.
Obviously ive never heard of these before so a little dubious as you have to be these days.
Anyone used them before and any info? Basically , ran a quote and at the end it asks you to take photos within 14 days of taking out the policy on the bikes and have them date approved, ie take photos with date stamp then email them to yourself so you can prove you actually had the bike in the event of a claim. Seems fair enough as its a fraud prevention thing.
Spoke to a guy on the number who seemed pretty good and reckons they use a company called enterprise for the policy as they are just the broker.
Sounds promising and would enable me to get another bike should i want to while my current policy still runs.
So if anyones used them and any opinions id be interested to hear |
