Looking for A cheep commuter, something small CC and reliable.

Need something I will not be tempted to race around on, as I am, and do. The ticket I received this morning is a slap to the face and I am determined to hold a mind-set about it, O course months and months down the line I may start to slip, and so I would like something that will make it easy to adhere to.

possibles I can think of:

C90
CG125
CB125/250
CBF250
RS50
CBR125

All pretty standard little machines, I'm sure people can add to the list, there must be countless sub-250cc that will fit the bill.

Please advice, Scootaloo

The BCF CG mafia will demand a CG.
But a C90 will beat it hands down in the frugality stakes!

Fixed that for you.

On topic how far is the commute?
Will you be using the bike for other things or just commuting?

Have you considered one of the bigger 200cc+ scooters for commuting with the increase in luggage capacity and the better weather protection they can give?

How about a nice Honda CBF500? They're stupidly low powered and they're very simple little bikes. You won't be racing anywhere on one, because if you do, you'll get laughed at by the guy with the 636 Ninja next to you at the lights Wink Laughing

Also, the Honda NC700X is a very comfy bike, ideal for longer rides. The power is there when you need it, but it has tank storage (the actual fuel tank is under the seat) and it looks the part Smile

Honda Vision 50.

On a 125 it's way too easy to sneak up to 40 in a 30 zone.

So, 670cc, not small and over £6k on the road new, not cheep (or cheap). Besides this review says the Suzuki VStrom is a more exciting bike, better comfort, more weather protection, superior tank range.

Love it when no attempt whatsoever is made to read and answer OP.

Elephant, that's what you need for the commute. Plenty of street presence and luggage carry capacity. Looks the part too Wink Very Happy

You obviously failed to spot irony and I was typing with my tongue in my cheek. Besides I'm sat down and not called Richard! Wink

Apology for any offence or embarrassment caused.

Commute is about 20-50 miles a day. Often will need to ride into central London, Considered for weekend work as well. But for now, just commuting.

Have not considered a scooter yet, might be the way to go! Unfortunately not really sure where to begin with Scooters, never looked into them, I like having the gears to work with, give's me something to do.

I've always liked the CG's maybe one of those is the best avenue, although would fancy something a bit more like a CB 175 or the likes.

Ideally needs to be sub-£800 to make it a realistic choice.

I'd rate a manual Cool

Any 125 4 stroke really.. heard silly MPG coming from the new cbf's.

The cheaper you get the less reliable they could get I guess!

I'd reccommend an XR 125, should be slightly better in the winter than your average L plate warrior too Thumbs Up

RXS100

Faster than a CG, just as reliable and easier to fix.

Not quite as good on the fuel though

Yeah, that's a good target. But CBF no more! I've had enough of that machine.

Hiono Texan.... its not fast, but would scare you more than a Fireblade if you even tried!

Actually... Personally, I'd probably be looking 2nd Hand Chink.....

Snowies AJS Raptor was dirt cheap, and super-ecconomical, and certainly 'slow'. Think some-one in China read that they have a 55mph speed limit in the USA and translated that as 'American Bikes can only go 55mph" so when they achieved that, they jumped for joy and exclaimed, out of sinc to the lip movemens "H-Pow... Tek Dat U Weeturn Devilz.... [lots of lip movement]...... har bykzaz badazz fasht as Harlee-Dividzon!....[lots more lip movement]... See it fist az furry!"

Theres a few Chinky 250 cruiserettes out there, and double bargain in my book.... no one wants chinky bikes, no one wants non-learner legal 250's..... ought to be able to find some-one to pay you to take one away........

Thinks:.... Hmmmm maybe you could remind Roger about the 250 Virago copy he has in his garage, and play on his calvinistic scottish sense of austerity and the guilt he still feels about steeling candy from a baby swapping a Hiono 125 for a GPz500.....

Cheep Chiness Crap you say? Perfect!

Looking at a lot of 50cc's in the 500 price range, lots of pink and baskets, london should be interesting.

Ideally a little 50cc pit bike would be great + should be suitable for stunting in the local run-down car park after work.

Will be on the lookout for not so well known brands now, sounds like a great idea.

Cheers
