Pretty sure they were 209 in the old dears catalogue, they were on the same page as the burner I was lusting after at the time Cool

Hi

I remember them from the early to mid 1980s. Don't think that many were sold but think there was also a lookalike version without the electronics.

The current equivalent price might sound high, but then things were relatively more expensive then

All the best

Keith

A lad on our estate had one. I was insanely jealous at the time (my BMX-a-like was from Asda) but just wow. It's aged almost as badly as Streethawk. Somewhere under all that drag is a BMX stylee frame made of cast iron.

In 1985 I got a bike for Christmas. Was a Falcon Pro Beta, like this one, but with spokes not mags:https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v638/motomagII/falcon001.jpg
I was yabbering for ages I wanted a Falcon Pro, my mates had Thetas (silver and yellow) or Kappas (blue and yellow), so my dad bought me one to be different. Except dad didn't know the local bully also had a Beta. When I saw it in the garden I remember saying "Get Scott's bike out of here, he's going to kill me!"

Of course he didn't, but his mother bought him one of those Raleigh things and he quickly lost his status at the top of the tree. They were "gay as fuck".

I want one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBuDw0oTOIU&feature=related

I remember them, ridiculous and weighed a ton, the black one looked "better" but thats not saying much is it.

Mind you I had the world's campest coloured BMX back in the day, like this but mine also had blue and gum tyres, also front and rear pegs, oh aye. Cool

Now let me tell you a story. As told to me by the victim, a work colleague.

It was rural Ireland and times were hard. A 12 year old lad was asked what he wanted for Christmas:

"Ma, oid love one of them Raleigh Choppers, so I would. Ah begora, be jayzus".

Ma had a look of love and scrimped all she could in the run up to Christmas.

The 12 year old lad scampered down stairs on Christmas morning to see a bike shaped object in wrapping paper.

Picture the face as he finds, wrapped inside:

https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4090/5013299764_35c2a6854a_z.jpg

A Raleigh Shopper. And yes, I'm advised it did have the basket on the front too.

That's Oirish accents for you. Now imagine the next few years of riding that to school when all your mates are on these:

The bars, levers, cables and saddle aren't original, and it has no decals.

I got a green Striker for Xmas when I was 5, I thought it was awesome.

I found out recently that my Dad had bought it 2nd hand, repainted it, and even managed to obtain a new set of decals for it.

He told me there was no way they could've afforded a new bike, so my Dad hid it in the garage for months, and worked on it whenever I was in bed.

All his effort worked, I never knew it was 2nd hand, I'd always thought it was new.

My Dad - he's ace.

Thumbs Up
