After speaking with the girlfriend today when i was bored at work, we got onto this conversation.

I think it's a load of shite to be honest, but i make an effort so i get brownie points.... if you get me.

Every other girl i've been with has always expected gifts and flowers etc. I told the current wench that i was gonna buy her a coconut next year (if i'm still with her), and her response?

'Fuck the coconuts. It's a day long sexfest filled with an array of different outfits, toys and blowjobs. The only break we get is to rehydrate. As sexist as it sounds but a woman must cook her man a steak!'

I think i might marry her.

So come on, what's the general opinion? Chose from one of the options above.

Personally don't really care for it I guess.

GF said she thinks people should do things for their partners without a day telling them to. I quite agree.

Last year I took her to a Zoo. Hilarious you might think, but it was empty so it was awesome. Just me and her and the animals.* Something different to a mediocre restaurant.

I'll get her some chocolates and a card, she doesn't do flowers. But nothing huge.

Steak and blowjob day needs to be made official.

*Yes yes, harr harr, but it's not what you think.

'sall bollox, hyped to ensure card manufacturers can buy new yachts!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Valentines day was about declaring your passion for someone anonymously, so sending your partner gifts is rather missing the point! Confused

I don't like it. Too commercialised, its a capitalist con to make money from us by having a "day of love".

I can very rarely do proper right, whatever I get a girlfriend she SAYS she loves it (and me) but then the passive aggressiveness starts because I should have got something else or something or other or I don't know what.

The ONLY good thing about it is its a day when you get "special birthday sex". Oh, and I like getting presents too. But unlike the missus I won't go all hissy if its not exactly what I wanted.

I forgot the forever alone option.

I know how to solve it though. Give me good karma if you want to vote forever alone.

Unless she's of legal age and she hold Valentines in the same regards, that's no good to anyone though...

There's no think about it, if my current girlfriend said that I'd propose on the spot. Can't let that slip away.. Well, unless she's hairy.

Valentines day is like religion, there to remind people what to do.

Religion reminds people that killing is bad, and valentines day is there to remind you that you love your partner.

Load of crap

Load of rubbish hyped by those nice people at Hallmark Cards... Same as Easter, Christmas, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Graduation Day, 'being ill' day, 'new job' day etc.

Nothing wrong with genuinely held sentiment expressed in a personal way, but not being made to feel guilty for not buying a card/cuddly toy/chocs/roses and all the other sh*te that goes along with it.

^^This Thumbs Up We were always brought up to believe it was what you did in order to let someone know that you liked them, so as kids we would handmake a card and then deliver it secretly and the person receiving was supposed to guess who it was from. You'd put subtle or less subtle clues in or on the card as assistance with the guessing!! Very Happy

Im-a-Ridah wrote:

^^See above. You're supposed to send it to someone you'd like to be with if you weren't single. Obviously if this is no-one then you'd still be unaffected.

I think it's like so much other stuff, the real meaning and sentiment has been swallowed up by all the greed and commercialism and been utterly spoiled and ruined.

Most men, married, are fucking useless when it comes to romance. The same can be said for most men probably, it’s often forced.
Valentines has really turned into ‘Remember what the fuck you’re doing’.
I still hear, and never laugh at wife jokes, they’re so sad...”So I says to wife....fuck off” or words to that effect. I mean Christ, what did you marry to justify that kind of shit. Laughing

This is basically a huge vanity thread for Mr Dunkable so he can let us all know he's getting some.

Meh, so are a lot of us! And it doesn't even need to be Valentines day! Wink

Quite aside from the fact that the whole thing is totally contrived, 'romance' is largely fuck all use if you're trying to gauge whether or not you're going to be happy with someone for the rest of your days.

Any pillock can buy tacky gifts, but it doesn't tell you whether or not they're going to start crying if you fart in front of them*.

As to the whole 'wife joke' thing - I never really got that, either. There are small niggles in any relationship, and they're typically blown massively out of proportion when making jokes about it, but I find the whole ball-and-chain jibe to be completely retarded. If you don't like being with them, why the hell did you marry them? Having said that, it's usually a joke that's told by the kind of guy that goes to working men's clubs, reads the sun, and is into comedians like Mike Reid - i.e. someone who doesn't bother with wit, they're just out for the nob jokes, and hope that there might be some mention of T&A involved.

*Actually had something similar to this happen to me once. Hilarity ensued, I promise you.
