Replaced C+S yesterday and aside from having to drill the chain guard bolts out Rolling Eyes went pretty smoothly. Although next time I must remember to remove the front sprocket before the back wheel so I don't have to find a way to brace the old chain enough with the centre stand and an old downpipe to get it off Rolling Eyes Very Happy

Anyway, first time I've fitted a 'proper' chain that wasn't the clip type and didn't fancy spending ~£30 for a tool after reading online you could fit it with two hammers easily. That isn't true incidentally (well not easy for me), but fortunately the breakdown mechanic who has a lockup a few doors up from mine was in and showed me a great trick to fit the link sideplate with a ring spanner and molegrips Thumbs Up Just the bit where you flare the ends to hold on to do, the mechanic advised I use a centre punch. Which I will, but how to do it so I won't be hammering away at the sprocket and therefore the bearing etc? Or are the link 'pins' soft enough to not have to worry too much? Anyone got any tricks?

Also, trying not to bugger the threads on the swingarm chain guard lugs I went up in drill sizes drilling the bolts out. there's still a bit in there though and I can't seem to shift it and a bigger bit would definitely (probably too late but hey) drill out the remaining thread - and tricks for this or should I just resign myself to cable ties till I can re tap it?

Cheers Thumbs Up
