GSXR FI problem fixed - what was it?

After much head-scratching and coil-swapping, I noticed a loose connector in the loom, and a loose connector coming from the battery (note the battery was already connected up - it was just a second connection from the negative terminal).

Plugged it in and... the problem has ceased. What was this connector? I struggle to see how it would make it run intermittently?

You'd be surprised at how many problems can be caused by dodgy connections.
