Hi all, not sure if this should be in workshop or not.

I've just had the AA out to fit a temporary clutch cable to my bike, I have a new clutch cable on order due to be with me on Tuesday, but I was just curious as to how many miles people have done on these cables? They aren't soldered ends, they're allen key'd? If that makes much difference?

Cheers,

Steve.

If it's been fitted properly, it should last. Smile

It could fail tomorrow or last the lifetime of the bike.

So just like any other clutch cable really.

Once you`ve replaced the temporary cable with a new one.
IF a new cable isn`t too expensive, buy a 2nd on as a spare one. Wrap the ends in electrical tape to keep it free of dirt & moisture, and route it along side the original & zip tie them together, then if the original should break again while your out on the road, it will be just a case of swopping the ends over and your back on the road.

both my clutch and throttle cables are duplicated in this way

Having the cable in place takes up no room in you saddle bags, or under the seat

Alternatively, if the cables are expensive, you can buy a small cable repair kit which has those solderless nipples and a selection of cables in a small tin like an airgun pellet tin. I keep one under the saddle with my puncture repair plugs.

Last one I got was from Heine Gericke.
