Apparantly I have low credit & no matter who I apply for I get rejected, even the so called "Poor Credit? No problem" reject me.

Thing is, I can't see my credit being bad.

I pay everything on time. I paid off a TV on littlewoods never having missed a payment, but that was 0% so perhaps no credit was given for that.

There's 2 things that could be buggering it up. But considering being independant for 4 years, paying rent/ctax/bills all on time. I would have thought my credit to be decent regardless of these 2 things.

1 - BT tried charging me for a bill, was bollocks, but I paid it off & switched to Sky, but I'm being pestered by debt collectors for the bill still.

2 - Orange, took a contract out for a gf, we split up, we both rang to switch it over to her name & bank, they only switched the bank details, she stopped paying. Debt collectors hassling me for money.

Both aren't seeing a penny.

My income is about 6955, but I also get tax credit which puts me on about 11,000

I've put Tenant, council tenant, full time, part time, rejected on them all based on credit being the reason :/

Two defaults and outstanding debts on your file will have hit your rating hard. Once you default on a debt/bill, that goes on your credit file and stays there for 6years.

There's a couple of things you can do to help improve your rating. Payday loans go on your credit file and they usually lend to anyone. I took out a 100quid wonga loan a few months back for 7days, paid it off after 3 and according to them, that'll have boosted my credit rating (was at risk of bouncing a bill with a 20bank charge, paid 5quid in interest instead Cool )

Also look at Cashplus prepaid credit cards. I use one for holiday spending money, but they come with the option of "credit builder". I don't know the in's and out's of it, but from what I can gather, they "loan" you a pittance and pay it back over 6months or a year. I don't think you see any of the money, it's more or less done in your name. Whether it works or not I don't know as I've rarely paid any attention to my credit file. Apart from one day maybe needing a mortgage, if I can't afford it, I'd rather save up than take out credit.

Yea, the chances are that you havnt got 2 defaults, you'll have 4. What tends to happen is BT and Orange will consider you in default and pass the debt on.

The company now who have "bought" your debt will also class you in default, even thought its the same debt. So if you've not had much credit in the past, it'll now look like you default on more debt than you settle.

Risk profiles have changed dramatically over the past couple of years as credit has become more expensive, so "low credit/ low income" individuals are now seen as much more risky.

If the BT bill is genuinely a mistake, you might get that shifted by contacting BT direct. The orange debt however, you won't. Its in your name, irrelevant of which bank account is used to pay it.

Payday loans could be the answer, but you'd have to be very discaplined to literally use them as a tool to build credit.

Went into my Bank a month or so ago, and was talking about applying for the a loan - I have poor credit.
He said I can apply, but he can see I have used payday loans - Also said, they dont boost your credit rating at all - infact it makes lenders look twice Twisted Evil So whos telling the truth Confused

Cheers for advice guys.

It was mainly so I could buy some new PC parts, as OCUK do finance which got rejected, so I was looking into a card so I can get the parts now lol

The BT one I'm in process of getting sorted. Need to print bank statements off & sned them to the debt collectors along with a cease & desist. Provided they go "Yep yep we'll let him off" (which I doubt, because they're scum).. Is that is? My defaults from them gone? Would I have to ring BT to tell them it's been settle so that they rid my default?

Orange thing can suck my balls. Everything switched over on the phone (so I thought, Mr Foreign cuntflap).. turns out they only did the bank change.. I have an orange contract myself & they can see mine is paid on time, everytime. I'll be fucking them off once it's ran out.

Edit;

I'd get a loan, but them adverts are like 232349802349% APR. wtf? Provided they'd give me a loan lol..

Also, the monthly payments are like £12 over 36 months for them PC parts. Hardly breaking the bank. I could afford £12 a month even if I didn't work. Seems abit ghey.

Littlewoods have no problems doing 0% finance, got my TV off them & some other stuff.

Currently got finance on motorbike, will that boost credit over time, provided I don't default? Got my orange contract, sky tv & broadband, gas & electric, water, tv license, all direct debit. Probably other stuff I don't remember lol

Edit 2;

Right, been on Experian, very poor rating lol..

Guess where it's down to.. Nothing I can see about BT in there.. But Orange 5 payments late..

How to get rid of Orange then? I told them as did she to switch it all over, but instead they only did the bank change, phone got robbed, she stopped paying. Now they're after me. Which they shouldn't, why would I change just the bank details?

I could just play this one off as fraud & fuck her over? I dislike the bitch with a passion. As I doubt they'll do anything over the "changed account over" thing to shift the debt..

Also "The balance of your unsecured lending indicates a lower risk" is my only positive on Experian lol

STOP! In the name of love.

Don't apply for any other credit / loan 'til you have got your credit file sorted. Every application and refusal should be logged on your credit file and makes it even worse to the next company who refuse you, rinse and repeat.

Telecoms mobile / fixed should be your next port of call.

Hmmm, makes you wonder doesn't it. From what I remember when I used to have to credit check people (amounts up to £15000), I pressed a button and it came back with a credit score. 20or more was a pass, 18-19 was a pass with a deposit (usually 50% or so) and 17 or below was a fail. We never got to see who a person had borrowed money off in the past, it was just the number that we were after from experian/equifax etc and it came through on automated systems. Occasionally we had a "Refer decision" which when processed went through a call centre type place where I presume they looked further into your credit file, but there had to be a discrepancy on there in the first place for the decision to come through as a referral.

What you will probably find is that it was the guy in the bank being a snobby twat. I once went into natwest some years ago to try and get a cheque book, but I only had their most basic account, the one they give to 16 year olds and welfare cases (it was a bills account, so it was my decision to open that account, not theirs). It only came with a "solo" card, not switch, and when I presented the card to him, he got all high and mighty and said that only customers with good credit can have a cheque book. I advised him that I only had the basic account as it was for my bills, my day to day spending account was with another bank (I even showed him the switch card). He was still acting like a cock, so I told him to close my account and give me my money out of it. He smirked and just said fine. He wasn't smirking when the manager had to come down and authorise a bankers draft for 9grand, during which the manager apologised profusely and offered me an upgraded account, credit cards, overdrafts, switch card and cheque book. I politely declined and I've been with co-op ever since! Bank workers are like call centre staff. They think they're awesome and everyone reveres their god like status in the financial world. The don't realise that to the rest of the world they're just minimum wage monkeys in a uniform.

Yeah I've got 9 reports of refusal. Didn't know it was logged before hand. I can deal with BT one already, but that isn't logged at all anywhere on my credit file.

Just this Orange one.

Say this Orange one was settled. How long would it take for it to update my credit file into a good status? Also, would those 9 refusals go against me if the Orange thing was sorted?

Thing is I know what I can afford, obviously lenders don't & don't want to take the risk.

Actually no, its not.

As far as Orange & BT are concerned, its a default. Failure to pay the debt company back will result in another default.

The credit file will show exactly the same amount outstanding, defaulted twice as the debt will have been sold on.

I doubt very much that the OP will now communicate in any way with the initital companies concerned, I suspect now that he/she will deal direct with the debt collection company.

For all we know, these debts could go back years. Its imperative that the OP contacts the collections comapny and works out a repayment schedule if thats what it takes (assuming its not too late to do so)

There's no defaults concerning debt agencies either, the debts show as from orange communtications, 5 missed payments so far, which will keep on going I gather for the contract period. As 5 payments is about right for when we split up.

Even though..

1 - I have never touched the phone.

2 - The ex had it robbed when she was "spiked"

3 - Stupid forgeign cunts can't understand English when I ask to switch it ALL over to her.

The debt letter was about £450, so I'm unsure what the debt is for, those 5 months? What happens if I paid it, will they continue hassling me, as I think it was a 24 month contract..

Edit;

Forget the BT one. BT one isn't logged at all. The BT one is bullshit. I have paid it, many year ago. I rang the debt agency & he said it was billed from 2009-2011.. I haven't been with BT since 2010.. So where did 2011 come from? Told him to suck a cock politely on the phone, I've just got to print bank statements off & send them off with a cease & desist. 2010 was when I paid it, with BT directly with an argument with a scottish chap then I switched to Sky.

The orange one goes back 5 months, ish. Seems everymonth they're trying to bill £102 which is getting rejected (ex's bank) but logged against me as it's in my name, despite telling them to switch it all over 5-6 month ago.

So the orange one is a relatively new debt so it's important to nip it inthe bud. I suspect the 450 covers the cost of the remainder of the contract.

In which case, you'll have signed a contract agreement which will hold you to that amount. Its important you pay this off before it gets escalated.

I think your wearing this one, i doubt you'll be able to shirk it on account of it being your misses' phone now. Paying back £15 - 20 a month should be enough to get them off your back.

The BT bill sounds like its not a defaulted debt at all. It sounds more like an administration issue. As you say, having a bank statement with a payment (and more importantly the transaction ref) will be enough to satisfy them.

When you say your talking to a debt agency, is it a seperate company, or merely the collections department ? Who are you talking to at BT ?

Seperate company, I maybe mistaken, but I think the debt has been passed on from a couple of debt collectors as I'm sure I've had letters from 2 different companies for this BT debt, but I've been getting letters since 2011 & chucked them in the bin, I've only recently bothered getting in contact cause it's the "court action" 'threats'.. Although I doubt they'll take me to court for £90, wouldn't it cost them more?

Edit;

I don't want to pay for a debt for something I've never owned, lessen learnt taking out contracts etc for other people anyways.

If it's for the remainder & I paid it, I would expect to get a replacement phone seeing as I would be paying for it, why would I pay a debt for something I have never used?

Maybe I could sort something with Orange, but I don't know if that's too late if they've sold the debt on. Seeing as the credit report shows Orange as the debt & not the debt collection company.

It isn't a question of whether you can afford it. It's a question of whether or not you're likely to pay it back. A regular string of missed payments suggests to any lender that there is a serious risk they'll never see their money again.

Payday loans are expensive because the sort of person to whom they lend exhibits a reluctance to honour their financial commitments. All the loans that default have to be financed somehow. When you pay back a Wonga loan you're also subsidising someone else who won't pay theirs back. It works kind of like vehicle insurance in that respect.

They'd take you to the small claims court and give you a county court judgement (CCJ). You dont even need to attend the court for them to do this. Once thats on your file, your fekked for 6 years I think. That sort of thing really messes up your credit.

Not sure how much it costs for them to do it, but I've heard stories of people given CCj's for far less.

that money saving expert website is very good if you need a better understanding of what could and couldnt happen. I'm not an expert, your situation is very salvageable, I'm just offering my opinion based on ermmmmmm, the experiences of a "friend" i knew several years ago Wink

Only if

1 - they do take you to small claims

2 - you lose

3 - you don't pay up within 1 month (i think that is the timescale)

Something else seems odd..

Why was finance accepted on a £2600 bike? I got the bike about 2 month after splitting up with the ex. So my credit would have been bad then..

Perhaps no credit check was done? I say this as a friend rented a house with someone she knew and paid the letting agent £150 for whatever they claim to do including a credit check. The man she rents the house with now has umpteen debt collectors chasing him for a number of unpaid debts consisting of store cards, catalogues, credit cards and overdrafts etc.

Quite how someone with such a poor credit history passed the letting agents 'credit check' Rolling Eyes that he paid £150 towards leads me to believe no credit check was ever done.

If you're still paying that back, plus you have these two (or four!) defaults, plus you're on quite a low wage, with the added problem of you having now applied and been refused for god knows how many cards, then no credit card company is going to touch you at the moment. It will take a while to sort out, there's certainly no quick fix, sorry to tell you this bud.

I'll just have to save & buy PC stuff bit by bit xD .. Useless at saving though, impatient, want everything now! lol

With housing benefit sorted. I've got another £250 on top of roughly £200 a month spare, so yeah the £12 a month is no problem, but the loaners don't know that & won't take the risk Sad

My credit rating is fucked due to me being an idiot when I was 18.

My plan is once I am fully sorted, don't owe anything I will not borrow a penny for 7 years then slowly build my rating up.

So much hard work to build a credit rating and so so easy to destroy it.

Only time I will consider borrowing is for a house. Cars and bikes and stuff can be saved up for.
