1989 zxr 750 h1 carb tuning..

Having serious issues trying to balance my carbs, does anyone know the "factory" setting for the carbs and i will go from there as they are currently all over the place.

I have not come across 'factory settings' for carbs in any Haynes,Clymer or factory manuals apart from what size the jets and float heights ought to be.

If the carbs are of the CV type ensure that the diaphragms are not split,are seated correctly in the top of the carb body and that the butterflies are all set at the same height.In the past I have done this using a small length of solder,especially when setting up carbs on the bench after being dismantled.With the solder method,insert a small length between the bottom of each butterfly valve and adjust the screws until there is just the slightest of resistance.Usually there is a screw adjuster between #1 and #2 and between #3 and #4.There is then usually another screw adjuster to balance the left pair with the right pair.This is only a course setup,the final settings can only really be checked after everything else on the engine has been serviced ie.shims,spark plugs,air filter etc.

A variation in compression readings between one cylinder and another will dictate how much vacuum is pulled by the engine on the carbs.If the compression readings were all exactly the same then the solder method of a base setting for the carbs would make them in the ballpark.
