....they don't have the clipboard marking you're every mistake as they go as they are riding too?

I mean, is it all done on memory?

My memory is pretty bad but still.....surely they cannot remember every single incident, especially if the pupil makes 8 or 9 minors?

I asked the examiner this after I'd passed my Mod 2. He said that they count the minors or majors, and use memory tricks to remember what they were and where they occurred.

When you test people 3, 4 or more times per day, you quite rapidly will become proficient at remembering when someone has done something wrong.

Any answer other than "decide if you've failed then work backwards" is probably disingenuous to a greater or lesser degree.

I wondered about this too when I did my MOD2 a couple of weeks ago. I only got one minor, but I know I made several mistakes so the examiner either didn't see what I did wrong or maybe he ignored it? Confused

Last week my instructor would ride with me, then go through the entire journey junction by junction, roundabout etc. and tell me what I did wrong - but he couldn't interrupt his recall by answering my question as to how he was doing it, hehe

They've obviously all been trained by Derren Brown. That, or they have a little recording device that they speak into and when they get back they listen to it and note it all down Wink

Interesting idea....but at what point would they have time to do that between getting off the bike at the end of the test and then walking over to you and telling you you've failed/passed?

When you think that the average test time is 1 hour from brief to debrief and the average working day is 8 hours a day your typical instructor on Mod 2 for the day could realistically do around 6 of the tests a day.

Lets say for argument sake he works 5 days a week and splits his days between mod 1 and mod 2 then your looking at 5 days on mod 2 over a 2 week period. Thats 30 mod 2's in 2 weeks or 60 a month.

Then take into consideration that they use the same predetermined test routes on roads they have chosen to test you on certain criteria, should it be hill starts, built up areas, national limits, roundabouts, pulling away. etc.

Is it any surprise that they know what they are doing? There is no secret to it, no tricks they use, they just know what they are doing because they have been doing it on a daily basis.

Then, if you notice, during the debrief they can prompt you into filling in information. When I passed my mod 2 I got a minor for something which I knew I would be marked down on. The examiner explained the minor for not giving enough room on overtaking a parked car. I supplied the info "The green car?" Yes the green one. You were a little close.

The chances are that green car has been parked there all day and he has taken his test subjects past it a few times.

My examiner was late arriving. Apologetic and then after watching me turn left instead of right ...go through on amber..and lock the rear on the ES he passed me.

My examiner had his sheet with him, placed on the tank (magnetic I guess)

Each time he asked me to stop in safe place, he made marks - simples.

I watched him on one of the stops
