From my limited knowledge of Italian there are many different forms of tense, multiple forms of past tense etc. which just do not translate into English.

We understood what he said, that's good enough for me.

Hey, welcome to the forum. Feel free to request my assistance with any translation issues as I speak fluent Italian.

That comes across as quite condescending.

The fact that we can understand him is good enough. No way id be able to do the same in Italian.

Wasn't meant to be condescending.

I've got a friend in Italy who's a mechanical engineer, having good English is very important in that profession as you often deal with projects world wide and English it the international language. She really appreciated it when I corrected her already good English. How else it the guy going to improve if no-one says "well actually this is a better way of writing that in English"?

If I were attempting to learn Italian (no chance!) I'd be onto Italian websites asking people to do the same for me.

Fair enough. Just came across as if you were constable of the Grammar Police.
