Hello, currently got a 50cc speedfight 2, looking to get a bigger geared bike, just been and looked at the Keeway Wolf SbNi125, felt right looked smart, but i initially wanted a CBR125, but i can't find one to sit on!

What would you recommend? I'm only small, 5Ft 8-9 lol..

Cheers!

Hi there mate.

have you ever riden a geard bike before?

If not would advise on maybe a cheap YBR, CG, maybe a CBF.
CBR is a good bike as well riding position is a bit low down but still a good bike. The CBR is a very small bike for a sports bike but it that's what you're after then go for it.

But if you're looking for something to practice on before you go for a test then i'd say a YBR or a CG

Any cheap 125 to get you through your tests and onto a bigger bike. They all perform the same pretty much, all 4 stroke 125s that is. Same sorts of top speed, acceleration etc. Your going to be on L plates so you'll look silly anyway so dont worry about looks.

CG125/CBF125 is my recommendation based on your financial situation. Dont get a "sports" 125 for the love of god.

^^ This

Get any old shit bag 125 - pass your tests then get something decent.

YOU DONT HAVE LONG (assuming you're 17)

Don't be tempted by sports 125 tat - overpriced and still slow as fuck.

If you are going to be 17 before December..... ANY BLUDY THING you can get a TEST ON!

If not... well then you may want to indulge yourself a bit in something more 'posey'... becouse you gonna be stuck with the damn thing a LONG TIME!

Come January, new licence laws for 17 year-olds, even if you do pass a test.... all they'll let you have is an 11Kw125.....

Ride that two years, you might be able to do a conversion course to upgrade your licence to an A2-45bhp restricted licence.... other wise you'll have to do tests over again...... hold that licence two years, and again, may be able to do a conversion course, or it will be a third set of tests to get full unrestricted A-Group.

Here and NOW... get ANY BLUDY 125 that has two wheels, and engine and an MOT, thats on the DSA 'approved-list' or you can de-badge and argue is test-eligible......

Use that, do your tests toot-sweet..... you can have an Restricted A-Group licence thay allows 33bhp bikes for two years, and automatically upgrades after that time to a full, ride what you like, any capacity, any power machine....

So dont sweat the small stuff!

If it says '125' or 'learner-legal' in the advert, and its not priced more than £200 over cash youi can scrape together in 24 hours..... go look at it!

If it looks even half useful.... buy the bludy thing!

Dont have to look cool.... Dont have to be be amazingly fast, or brilliantly comfy.....

Its a bike, your buying it to get about and get a licence with, you ent marrying the bugger!

I've never used gears before no, so it's kind of learning the gears..
I'm not fussed on getting a big big bike lol, this is only to get me around to work and back.

I'm 19 so the '17' thing doesn't come into me really, The Wolfs top speed of 65-70, 5 speed, feels nice, looks nice, it's £2399.. but i'd be on finance anyways lol!

Thats why i was looking to get a brand new one, as i cant be bothered doing lessons in a car, Costs too much to insure too, so i wanted brand new bike to last a little longer Smile

If you're under 21 you need to do your tests before January otherwise you're not going to be able to get an unrestricted bike until you pass 2 different tests, or until you turn 24 and do Direct Access.

^^ basically new licence laws hit every one under 24.
Two year rule is on each licence will still apply, and theres no direct answer to whether there will be a 'direct access' to the A2 licence for 19 year olds.

Meanwhile doesn't matter whether you want a big bike or not; its a FULL licence not a 'Big-Bike' licence.... they dont take it off you if you dont get something over 250cc within the first three months!

As for something 'more reliable' and longer lasting..... Go look at what you could have for two and a half grand that's over 125cc.

No one says you have to ride a big bike just because you have passed tests, but there aren't many great reasons for sticking to a 125.

Snowie, who past her restricted licence teo days ago has just been running some quote comparisons... She has a Honda CB125 Super-Dream..... costs her £120 a year to insure fully-comp.

She just got a quote on a Honda CB250 'nighthawk'....... £103.

Its just as ecconomical, just as reliable, just as easy to get bits for...... TWICE as powerful (though starting with not a lot, thats still not a lot more.... though still 'useful'!.....

CHEAPER to run......

That licence is the key to WHATEVER you want from biking, be it performance or pennies, get out the learner market, and its there for teh taking.

Like I said, its a FULL licence, not a big-bike licence, and the provisional is just that, offered on the provision you intend to take a test.... its not a licence to be LAZY and not bother learning to ride and earning your road space.

Pretty sure the SB-125 "wolf" is a SYM bike rather than a Keeway.

General review - Well equipped but heavy and slow and far too pricey.
You want us to recommend a bike for you? That all depends on what you want it for, how long you want to keep it for, how much cash you have to splash.
Not sure where you live but this Honda CBF could be worth a look if its nearby https://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/lovely-honda-cbf-125-for-sale/111025830
