Alright everyone,

My name's Josh (If you haven't already guessed)
I've had a full car license for about 7/8 months.
Driving a car is all good and it gets me around but I want something faster.

My dad has a Honda Fireblade 929 and had an Aprillia Mille before that.
He's always been into bikes and I suppose that's where I get my love of them from.
Living in Winsford, Cheshire I'm 10 minutes away from Oulton park and whenever the sun is shining and I see all the bikers out and warming their tires up before tanning it down the dual carriageway makes me wonder why I've not done anything to get my bike license yet.

So I'm going to be doing my CBT pretty soon, then as soon as I've done that I will get my arse down to Crewe and do my bike theory test.
Then get myself a 125 geared bike, as there's no point riding a moped if I want to move onto a geared bike.

I'll get myself some lessons and will then book in for my CAT 1 after a few months.
I really hope to get this done either before the new year or February at the latest.

Is this realistically possible?
How long did it take everyone going from CBT to Full license?

I was looking at a Cagiva Mito, derestrict after I get the full license it and keep it for the 2 years until I can get something a bit bigger.

I heard they're quite good bikes...

Anyway, enough of my ramblings.
Any answers to my questions would be great and it's nice meeting you all I'm sure we'll get on like a house on fire!

Hi there, welcome for what's its worth (I'm a newbie myself)

CBT in April, Mod 2 still to go - but I wasted loads of time enjoying myself. The aiming point is Jan 15th when I'm stuck with a 125 forever should I not pass before then..! Neutral

For you, entirely doable before then.

Hey there. Let's get straight to the point.

A 125 is not faster. Do not kid yourself. Faster acceleration, maybe, than a clapped out 1L Clio, but not much else.

If you do this, you need to book your test in the next month or two as the waiting lists for mod 2 are quite long in places.

Yeah, right. Pretty sure the restrictors would have fallen out way before then.

Uh huh.

Let's skip to the end of the story. Assuming you are successful in your tests, you'll be riding a tiny, noisy, 2-smoke vuvuzela for two years. Assuming it doesn't blow up before then when you rag the tits off it, if you are lucky you'll sell it and get your money back.

What have you gained, exactly? A little bit of road sense? Because you won't pick up riding skills on your own. You'll build up your confidence, sure, but you won't develop your riding style much unless you have someone coaching you.

Book your theory, now. Book your CBT, now. If you're over 24 look for a DAS course, if you aren't, I would look to get a taught A2 license booked instead. You'll have a hell of a lot more options and you'll actually get what you really want, which is a 33 BHP pussy magnet. JFDI Thumbs Up.

Don't get a 2 stroke 125.

Just do the tests, maybe buying something like a cg/ybr 125 to practice on for a month, or just hiring a bike for the tests with a lesson on that bike before each module.

Then you can get a proper bike that will be faster, more reliable, sound better and probably look better too.

Get those tests done before January!

I speak from experience, I wasted 6 months on a "sports" 125 before doing my full tests. Pointless shit. I wish that after my CBT and theory I just did a lesson on a hired 125 and did the tests as soon as!

Nah I'm only 17 so I can't do the DAS.

I understand what you're saying as far as the fact about riding a dingy 125. By faster, I meant in the long run sorry not right now, as I see myself going through 2 long before I get rid of the car. It's 08 plate and I intend to keep it until 2018. (That's if I don't total it)

I can now see where you're coming from as far as ragging the shit out of it because I'm not going to be one of these people who say they'll keep the revs down to a minimum etc.
I will most definitely rag the arse off of it.

I am getting my CBT And Theory booked tomorrow and that should be sweet. Payday is around the corner and I've been meaning to do this for a while.

By the way Turkish, is that name a Snatch reference? Very Happy

EDIT: Yes do I do want a 33bhp pussy magnet! It's like you know what I'm thinking Smile

I've gotta say, that was pointlessly degrading.

It's only the start of September. That's almost 4 months to go through the whole process. Easy.

Fair point about not bothering with a 125 if the end goal is bigger things, but the ego could have been left out in that whole response...!

Buy a YBR125 get your tests on it. Trade it in for a GPz500s and restrict that on your 33bhp licence.

Or similar.

Get a mito or other hi-po 2T.. shit & giggles start to wear thin when they are being 'tempremental'... especially if you have a long awaited test date JUST when they decided to throw a hissy fit... which the law of Italian Electrics says they will strategically WAIT for!

They are high maintenence machines, and expensive to live with, either cash or hassle or both.

YBR staid & steady gets the job done, & first bike, probably be no less fun. after, restricted 500, ofers as much performance, again, more reliably, probably more cheaply, and offers potential to pop the washers when your licence matures.
