I bought my bike a year and a half ago, a Bandit 650, second hand. In buying, I also asked the dealer to fit a restrictor kit due to my license. They did so with an FI international throttle restrictor kit which cost the earth. I did it because I wanted a proper certificate and to know that it was restricted properly.

Come today, I've had my full license 2 years and I want to remove my restrictor. I went to get at it, but in doing so I was looking for a 'device' marked 0815, as is stated on my 'official' certificate.

The only restrictor on the bike, which is quite obviously restricting it is a piece of metal marked 0817.

I know its being petty, and I know the bike is still restricted, but my point is, is I could have bought a £3 piece of metal like that from ebay and got a dyno report done.

I didn't.

I paid for the official 'kit' to be fitted and I've been given an invalid certificate.

Do I have a leg to stand on if I ask for a refund, or the bogus piece of metal to be removed from my bike?

No. You paid for them to fit a restrictor, they did. That is all an FI International restrictor is, the same as something you could knock up yourself.

Does it really matter about the difference in numbers? You're fully unrestricted now anyway, what does it matter?

Relive past 2 years, do not install restrictor. Laughing

Just get on with it or sell the slow bandit and get another bike. Leave it 33hp and sell it to a new rider Wink

I would say forget about it, you've paid the money for the certificate, not the kit Wink Which might well have got you out of some bother with the police had you ever needed it, but you probably haven't and so now you feel it's money not well spent. Nevermind, you're good to go now! Enjoy!

This is probably the reason that after January this kind of thing will be history. Let's be honest, most people that 'should' have their bikes restricted just don't....they have the paperwork yeah, but the restrictor either never went on or got swiftly removed. The whole restriction thing is a farce really and thankfully after January things will be more cut and dried....or will they? lol

Yeah, there is no legal requirement for a certificate. Even if your insurer asks.

You got raped by FI... that is all.
