Where you find everything else these days of course!...ebay! For example......

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Helmet-Speakers-Headphones-UK-SELLER-HIGHLY-RATED-/120975980601?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item1c2abaf839

And yes you can wear plug style headphones. The trick is, whichever you go for make sure you can still hear enough of your surroundings to ride safely Very Happy

I'd just go for in-ear buds, especially if you get something of decent quality. I don't think there's any need to hear what's going on around you, as far as riding is concerned you should be more visually perceptive anyway. If you're able to hear around you, you're able to hear the wind noise and the engine, and it just ruins your music anyway.

I must admit, I do like to hear whats going on, but do like a few tunes as well. I quite often just wear one ear bud as a compromise

Meh, I wear earplugs and listen to music. The music doesn't go loud enough to drown out the things I need to hear anyway.

I rode through the middle of London everyday with full volume in-ear earphones and no mirrors and never had an issue. The trick is to be faster than everything else and make sure you check junctions properly even when the lights are green.

I have posted this before and I find the flat speakers the best for helmets.
I have a pair and I find an advantage (among others) is that I can still wear earplugs to reduce wind noise and still have music.
I find earplugs more comfortable under my helmet than in-ear headphones.

Further advantage for me is that they're in the helmet so available when you need them. No faffing about, although may not be an issue for some. I find a dedicated in-ear pair for MP3 works for me.

There are lots out there. I found these albrecht flat speakers on amazon.co.uk no problem. Decent reviews. Google and/or eBay can be friend.

Agreed 100%. I've got those, they are good. They could do with being a smidge louder, but I suspect that is more down to my phone than the speakers themselves.

I've never had a problem hearing that stuff to be honest.

...that's a problem with their actual siren noise, doppler effect and all that. I think some have been experimenting with more of a pulse siren sound that actually gives some indication of direction.

Lets hope you're not round a blind bend or crossroads when you see the blue light last minute.

As long as the right type of earphones are used and its not too loud I don't see a big problem...but I wear ear canal type earbuds with my MP3 player at the gym and even without the music on, they are that tight on that I'm almost 100% deaf with them in.

Considering the amount of time I've spent on the bike... I tend to make myself aware of surroundings and whats going on. You'll notice other vehicles moving.

How long have you been on the road?

You guys are aware deaf people CAN drive, and are allowed a driving license arent you?
On the chaly and R1 I use my Samsung Galaxy headphones. They come with 5 or 6 sets of rubber buds so you can get a set to fit in your lugs snug.

Act as ear plugs too that way. So no wind noise. And crystal clear music. Can still hear the engine a bit too.

Then they're not working as earplugs should do.

The correct earplugs are designed to cut out certain frequencies. So for example you can have a conversation and shoot a shotgun without hearing damage.

Same for motorcycles, designed to cut out certain frequencies. In fact some earplugs have inserts so you can adjust the frequencies (e.g. travel ones for cutting out airplane humm and then another insert for cutting out your partner's snoring).

That's why I like the in helmet flat speakers and earplugs. The music is like a conversation, clear while other noise eliminated. I'm not really expecting audiophile hi-fi quality so I don't really miss the nuances of the music when travelling. Stuff like sirens is another frequency again, so can be heard.

21 years mate.

But you could be the best driver in the world but not being able to hear anything COULD be a distinct problem in certain situations on the road.

I'm not slating anyone's driving skill, I just think riding round with loud music in your ears could possibly lead to danger...and none of it you're own doing either.

And yes, deaf people are allowed to drive on the roads, but they do have to tell dvla don't forget.
