As a skint hungry student, i have decided to get a part-time job...
I managed to get one working for Charlton FC Very Happy
But i have to get there for 6pm in the evenings, which means travelling right through rush hour. Mad

First day and...couldnt find the bloody entrance to the ground!!! There was a load of building work around the ground, so roads were all blocked off etc. Ended up riding round in circles for a bit, figuring out how the hell to get in.

Anyway, there was all these little scooter gangs hanging round everywhere on street corners, in their caps and hooded tops. With me riding past as many times as i did, i'm sure they must of thought i was trying to provoke them.
[Which - going by past experiences - a restricted NSR v scooter , is NOT a good idea!] Embarassed

Luckily i did find the ground eventually, just as practically the whole of Charlton scooter mob, were hot on my tail!! :o

What is it with everybody!
Cant they leave me to get lost in peace!
Evil or Very Mad Damn scooters!!

...and another thing thats hacking me off today.......
[I could just re-name this Subject as 'Vipers Problem Page']

For the first time in ABSOLUTELY AGES (well, 3mths), i HAD to go out in my clear visor.

And i know this is probably not a major thing for you lot, but I HATE my clear visor! I like the comfort of being annoyous in my dark visor. I hate it when people know i'm a woman on a bike!

So anyway, went out in my clear one, feeling very naked and exposed to the world! And even by the end of the road, i was pulling up a traffic lights, :o and people in cars just stared. :o They were really starting to hack me off! :o Why they stare so much beyond me! :o
Maybe its me feeling very selfconcious about a clear visor.
I hate my clear visor!!

I prefer my dark visor too but at night the clear visor tends to be the better choice!
Dont mind the mopeds. What I find is they aren't really trying to intimidate you but rather they are gawking at your sweet looking NSR and wishing they had the money to buy one. You might notice the drool running down their faces next time!! Laughing

I know the exact feeling...but I didn't realise just how clear my face was until I drove (in a car) past scooter and looked at the rider's face...

...has anyone tried/got one of those Holovisors?...they look pretty cool and they are only supposed to be slightly tinted...

I was 16 when I got it, now I've just turned 17

It cost me £2149 new, but this includes 1 year insurance, tax, 3 year warranty, and a free CBT

And no, I dont go around wearing caps and hoods

When I look back I wish I'd have got a £400 moped so I could afford an NSR when I turned 17. Unfortunately, I still have over £1000 to pay on this

It nothing personal. Wink
Just dont like the whole 'scooter mob' thing.
Specially when they hang around on street courners just looking for a race.

The other thing i absolutely HATE about them, is that they seem to have this wonderful theory in their heads, that they are allowed to undertake anything and everything on the roads. Its damn right dangerous.
They seem to think that they are exempt from the highway code!

Hi
I dont mind scooters if the people riding them are mature enough to handle, however some of them r just wankers, there were two scooters messing about with their peds, and they had no respect for themselves their peds and anyone els they were complete wankersl. I think if they made CBT's harder then less people like this would be allowed on the roads.

Cheers

Luke

I think that they should make the CBT harder.
You need a proper licence to drive the car, so why not a bike.

The thing that worries me is, when they start to introduce this £5 "City Charges " thing to London, motorbikes and scooters will all be exempt.
So therefore the numbers of scooters on the roads in the City will definately increase.
And if the 'select few' continue to think they are indestructable on the roads and ride like headless-chickens, then that WILL definately be a VERY bad thing!

God help us all!

yeh I agree... I wouldn't be too against the driving licence being 'renewed' every 5 years, as has been suggested. While no one drives/rides like they do on their test people should at least know what they are *supposed* to be doing.

yes

and 'priority to the right' on roundabouts

A lot of people seem quite bemused when I beep at them after they've pulled out in front of me!

Worst time I was coming up to a small (mini sized but normal style) roundabout indicating right, going moderatley fast.
Took the roundabout with a peg scaraping and a van still pulled out infront of me... only just missed it.

Where my mate lives. A place called Huyton in liverpool. It's not scooters which are a worry. It's gangs of kids on crossers and nicked sportsbikes. A couple of weeks ago 3 kids without lids tried to chase me on an rgv250. Luckily I am was a better rider than they where or the situation could have become interesting. I'm not riding around there again.

Hi

Not really practical though. After all if people on average drive from 20 to 65 that is 9 test passes rather than one. Where are you going to find a 9 fold increase in the number of driving examiners.

Better idea would be to make the test far longer (1~2 hours), cover motorways and pass people on whether they are safe rather than whether they can remember which shoulder to look over that particular second of the test

All the best

Keith

I only mentioned it 'cos I read something about a parlimentary-style person suggesting it a while ago.

Oh yeah... I'm not sure how the money is distributed from test but at £45 for about 45 minutes I'm sure they could encourage enough people....
TBH It would probably annoy me they instigated such a scheme anyway.

Hi

£45 probably goes 90% in admin. Bet the examiners arent on much money.

The one who took me for my bike test did the "emergency stop" (in the days when they walked round and watched you) by stepping out in front of me when he was barely in view. My emergency stop consisted of pulling the clutch. His should was all out of line, and I suspect someone in the past hadnt stopped!

All the best

Keith
