I was riding along the other day, and whilst doing so I was wandering if it would be possible to ever actually forget to wear a helmet!

Has this ever actually happened to anyone whilst riding?

Nah. Closest I've gotten is standing outside, house locked, me and the girlfriend geared up and me about to start the bike... as she turns around to me and goes "Jordan... helmets..."

They were still inside.

I've ridden intentionally without one before. I couldn't be bothered to put one on riding ~200m to my Dad's house.

I've always wanted to do that but knowing my luck a fucking copper comes round the corner.

I've forgotten to strap my helmet up once. Every biker I passed shook their heads to tell me but I thought it was a new nod or something!

Three live <200m from my house too, I had to pass 2 of their houses to reach my Dad's! Smile

Done this a couple of time too. Most memorably pulling out of the service station... then in to the hard shoulder a few meters later when I realised. Rolling Eyes

Non-endorsable and only a £60 fine. If everyone sends me enough money to pay the fine, I'll live the dream.

+1 for forgetting helmet strap once before too. Hit an NSL road before realising.

Yes.
In competition.
Once did an entire trials lap lidless.

Actually, I have done entire events lidless.... they didn't become compulsary in trials until about 1997.... though I recall having to buy one in I think it was '93, when regs started saying 'no-hat-no-ride - not us, blame the insurers'. Classic Trials under AMA regs hats are aparently 'optional'...

Which goes some way to explaining why no one yelled at me for obviouse omission, when I 'forgot'.

Bike had conked out with ignition problems on a section, & I'd pulled hat off and stuck it on a rock while I tried to get the bike started... because of getting hot & flustered, finally pushed it back to the car & fiddled with the points, and panicking to get my laps in, rode straight back onto the course.

Got back to where I had left off and though... "That looks like my hat on that rock....." and suddenly remembered!

Once, I low-sided my scooter in town. No injuries, but the brake lever had been bent - and this scooter needed this specific lever pulled in in order to start. So I packed my helmet away in my top-box, put the scooter on its sidestand, got on my back, put my foot against the lever and pulled on the handlebars until it was approximately bent back into shape. Then I got onto it and tested it by starting it - and off I went, a good 200m before I noticed that there was something wrong!

I'm a fan of ratchet straps rather than D rings precisely for the ease of doing up the straps with gloves on.

I have ridden off without it on once. I got to the end of the (very short) road before the penny dropped. The bike seemed very loud and it took me that long to work out why Laughing

I've ridden once or twice without a helmet. At my female friend's house, getting from the front to the back of the house requires a good 300-400m trip.

To be honest, the most jarring thing is hearing the engine noise without muffling. I thought something was wrong with the bike.

I used to sometimes nip to post box half mile up our (minor, rural) lane without helmet.
Got quite a shock to round bend one day and see a police car stopped talking to someone. Pale

I sort of waved on passing, posted letters then had to come back again past them!
Nothing said, WPC in car actually didn't seem to notice. Cool

Then once in France I'd gone in a little shop to buy food and put helmet down by the till, went back to bike and fitted stuff in panniers and was just about to get on board when I realised 'no helmet'!
At that moment shop owner appeared, "Monsieur vous avez oublié quelques chose!"
I wouldn't have ridden off but was momentarily flumoxed as to where I'd left it as being only a quite village I could equally have left it on the bike being right outside the shop.

I was heading up the A27 when I noticed a strange flapping - helmet strap undone. A strange feeling took over, and I felt my helmet might get sucked off at any moment (ooer).

I took the next exit and took a random road at the following roundabout figuring I'd find somewhere quiet to do it up. Straight back on the A27! I nearly did it again at the exit after that but spotted a bus stop, phew!

A few weeks ago I left the house without mine, problem was, I'd also left without my house keys (had the bike keys though!), so I had to wait half an hour in the pissing down rain outside the house til my Dad came with a spare key to get back in. Not forgotten again since Rolling Eyes

Only forgot to put helmet strap on, or gloves. Something like a helmet becomes imediately obvious thats its missing once you start going.

Forgetting to position the spuds properly while wearing textile trousers and then sitting on the bike is only to be done once.
Pinch. Shocked

Nearly. Once left work, walked all the way to the far end of the car park to were my bike was, had a ciggie while warming the engine up for a new minutes, put my gloves on and was just about to pull off when it started to dawn on me that something wasn't quite right. Didn't figure it out immediately though. Felt like a bit of a Homer as the word D'oh went through my mind.

Felt a right idiot having to go back through security in work as I'd left my lid on top of my locker.

Recently did the chin strap thing though. Only realised when I went to take my helmet off. Embarassed

Not forgotten a helmet. Ridden without it deliberately but not forgotten it.

Forgot to put gloves on once, realised when I rode out of my road and hit 30 that it was a little chilly! Went back and got them again.

Recently forgot to do the strap up on my helmet, was leaving the MOT center after getting the bike MOT'ed and was having a chat with another guy waiting for an MOT. Hopped on the bike, revved it up and rode off. About 1/2 a mile down the road I felt something smacking me in the chin/face. Took me about 3 mins to realise that I hadn't done the strap up. Pulled into a rugby club car park and did it up then rode off.
