Hi everyone,
My brother is over here from the USA and is doing a three month tour of Europe. He is going to purchase a bike here and has found one he likes, the problem is that we have no idea what to do about motorbike insurance, as he doesn't have a permanent UK address. Does anyone know of any insurance companies that provide for something like this? It can't be an uncommon situation.

I figured I'd ask on here as someone here must have some advice!

Thanks,

Celina

Has he a bike in the USA?. If so check if there is a provision in that to cover him 3rd party outside the USA.

Failing that I thought when you came into the country you had to give a place where you're staying, even if you intend touring. Can he not quote that?

Hi Map thank you for such a quick reply. He already asked his insurance provider in the States and they won't cover him. He has quoted my dad's address but they say that because he's not permanent they can't insure.

What would happen if he said he had just moved here?

I googled and you might want to check this link
link wrote:
For non-residents of these areas: e.g. "cover for a non-EU resident on an EU registered bike providing the person being insured owns that bike." "In cooperation with our partners in the USA and Europe we have developed special insurance programs with tailor-made concepts for your individual needs. This concept is exclusively available through TourInsure. You may give us a call or send your request by fax."

Find us here: https://www.tourinsure.de/englisch/motorcycles_e.htm

Obviously can't recommend as have not used.

HTH Thumbs Up

Firstly how would the insurance know he's not permanently living at your dads?

The only way is if he tells them.

Would he be covered if he had an accident and he lied about his address being permanent?
