...and it´s all about getting my leg over:

When I put the top-box on the bike, I have real problems getting off as my leg gets stuck. Is there a clever way of doing this, or should I go for the amputation option?

Yours stupidly,

x

could you put the bike on it's side stand first so the bike is leaning over.
Less height to get your leg over.

do you have problems getting on or is it just getting off Wink

Haha, I got on my instructors bike the other week cos he wanted to show me how heavy it was, that had a top box on, I kinda half got off and then hopped with my leg dragging over the bike! I was wondering myself!

Amputation. Get pictures.

Alternatively use one of the pegs as a step, that should help a lot.

Ha, this reminded of pulling into the petrol station, filling the bike up then we were going to swap, hubby had been pillion, was my turn.
We had a back box on and I couldn't get my leg over. I was hopping around trying to swing my ankle over, kept kicking the box hehe
Hubbs ended up back as pillion, he couldn't take the embarrassment Smile

You can always swing your leg up, but then with your hand tuck your leg towards you. Not explaining well?.
leg up, folded, pulled toward you. Once you can eke the foot over the other side you can extend again.
Try and get your knee as close to the tank as possible. Works for me, but I'm only 5ft4''.

either swing your leg over bent at the knee, or put one leg on the foot peg, stand and swing over

Bend leg at the knee, so its only half the length to swing.
Unfold once its over the saddle.
TBH, its the way to get onto any bike, really; same problem is encountered on cruisers with step-seats or sissy-bars and sports-bike with hump-seats etc.

Never too late to start ballet... Wink

Alternatively, move further up the bike and lean the body on the tank, bend the right leg and swing it over.

Or, lean slightly back and swing the leg over the tank.

Or, just feed the leg over the seat in a straight line, then hop towards the bike and collapse on the seat. The least graceful option.

Luckily I had the foresight to do ballet as a child, as I'm a short arse.

Not to be tried on Ducatis, as their side stands are made of cheese. Mozzarella, to be precise. Not necessarily designed to take even the weight of the bike, let alone that of a rider on top.

Saw on bbc last night a show about a 34 stone kg woman. Are the brits now competing againt the yanks as the most obese? I wonder if any triumph engineers watching that started thinking about titanium side stands.

I have a top box fitted to my bike and to start with I kept kicking the bloody box with my foot as I tried to swing it over!
I now put the bike on it side stand, grip both bars and lean right forward over the clocks so I can gain enough clearance to get my leg over the seat.

Tried doing it like cowboys do for horses? Jump off a balcony...

Or

come at it from the front left foot on right (as you look from the front) side peg, sand upright, swing right leg over.

The proper procedure is take a stance about ten feet to thr rear of the bike, then aproach at a rapid pace until you are just to the rear of the machine, then place both hands on the top box transfering your momentum at the same time as spreading your legs open, you should then find yourself literaly airborne, at this point lift your hands up in the air and your body should arc over the top box and then your arse should come to land (conveniently) on the bikes seat. I'm told this work everytime. Advanced motorcyclists may even stand in front of the bike and backflip into the seat, for lady motorbikerlists though a sports bra is recommended for this manouver.

I hope this helps.

I don't have issue with my topbox (unless parked up close to a wall) but I DO have a bit of a struggle when I've got anything strapped to the pillion seat like a small bag/holdall.

What I've found works is definitely the one-legged-hop but I use one hand lightly on the handlebar (left-hand side) to give me a little support.

Another way you can try is to turn the handlebars full lock to the RIGHT before you get on, position yourself further up the tank and swing your leg over that way with a bit of a bent knee. Changing the way the handlebars are sat will also give you more room.

Hope that helps.
