Hi guys,
Looking for some opinions/advice on some matters involving insurance.
In my garage I have a Sachs XTC 125, it's not running right, has no MOT or Tax etc.
A friend of mine wants to do his tests before the new laws come in, he doesn't have a bike or the money to buy one, and can't really afford to pay for lessons either.
He's suggested to me, that he takes the Sachs, fixes it up, MOT's it and Taxes it and uses it for his tests. In return I get a Fixed, MOT'ed and taxed bike ready for sale.
Now this sounds like a great deal to me, he gets to use a bike for a couple of months and I get it out of my garage and onto the road.
Now, the problems comes when the question of insurance arrises. Obviously he'll have to be insured on the bike but theres two problems with this:
1) The bike is in my name and I don't particularly want to transfer it to him
2) He has two claims on a car policy
Does he have to declare car claims? Does this affect the one years bike no claims he got on his Moped?
If I were to insure the bike in my name with a full licence and add him on as a named rider and he had an accident, would it affect my no claims at all? If not then this is obviously a very attractive option as it is also cheaper.
I'm really not bothered if he bins it, the bikes a bit of a mess anyway and so long as its sellable at the end I'm not that bothered. ____________________ Former: Derbi GP1 50, Sachs XTC 125, Suzuki GSXR 400 GK73A, Kawasaki ZX7R, Suzuki DR250, Yamaha RD350
