i have an ex race (superteen) aprilia rs 125. im not sure wether i should do some work to it (wouldn't cost much, a fair bit of time though) to make it a nice looking bike, or sell it as parts. when done the bike would have the following spec:

carbon arrow full system
thinner chain
GP style gearing
superteen race tuned engine
rave unit/ powervalve
steering damper
brand new brake pads
rebuilt engine, less than 10 miles since
gloss black
black rims
bar end mirrors
tail tidy
05 pillion, with modded 09 front end fairings

that's about it. so how much do you reckon the bike would be worth? and would it be worth more in parts?

Probably be worth about 50 squids when your finished, so that will be your best option, then you can sell it to me Wink Laughing

It's probably worth more in parts but how easy will it be to sell all those parts?

It's probably going to be much easier to sell as a whole bike, unless you want to spend the next 6-8 months selling little parts and dealing with hundreds of requests for bits you've already sold and other annoying requests.

Theirs 2 options:

If you have time and in no need of the money in a hurry I would say in parts.

If your keen to get the money, an want to sell it wholesale sell it on eBay people go crazy for abused aprilia's for some reason !

i've estimated that for the big parts (engine, exhaust, frame + loom, wheels + tyres, clutch) i could get roughly £850, not sure how much i would get for the various other small bits. people seem to love these superteen tuned engines. so my question really would be, how much would i likely get for an ex race bike (think it was raced for 2/3 years), that has had a top end engine rebuild recently, new brakes, very well maintained, in good cosmetic condition, and an 05 model?

£1700 at the most, problem being so well tuned is it will have no reliability for the road.

tbh, its only been tuned to superteen. they're only allowed to tune it so much so i would say it's only lightly tuned - the bike even still had the full road wire loom still on. i would say it hasn't helped reliability, but theyre not the most reliable bikes anyway. if i could get 1700 for it im almost definitely going to do the work to it

it would need the following:
-headlight
-indicators
-oil tank/pump
-bar end mirrors
-tail tidy/ brake light (it's one unit)
-a horn
and possibly a paint job (i've got a paint gun)

so all in all would cost less than 200, and i bought the bike for 700. and would take me maybe 3/4 weekends to complete

Very helpful.

Now come back when you've owned something other than a 500cc two wheeled car.

Thanks.
Come to think of it Thinking, I've owned a crappy 2t ped, an underrated chinese 125 and the best 500/bike ever made! Thumbs Up Mr. Green

That was either the RD or the RG, so if you owned one, why did you get rid of it and buy a shitty CB500?

In fairness I'm sure you said it in jest, but the CB500 isn't even the best 500 commuter! GPZ ftw!

So for the big stuff you reckon you'd get around £850, so £150 clear profit (give or take). Stuff like fairings, pegs, bars etc would sell well I would have thought as people that drop them want these parts.

Other option is to sink another £200 + however many hours of your time fixing it up & waiting for a host of numpties calling you in text speak

I wouldn't bother fixing it up personally, you'll more than likely find more work that'll need doing and you'd have started it so will be committed to finishing it to realise the price you want.
I'd break it, make a drink out of it, be happy and not have the hassle. Thumbs Up

tbh, the guy i bought it off was very honest. he told everything about the bike, the history, what's wrong with it, what needs to be done etc. as for putting on lights and indicators, i would literally just need to plug them in, as the full road wire loom is all connected up and just under the fairings. mirrors, tail tidy and horn are all simple jobs. all in all that work would take about 4 hours max. so one evening. the only thing that could take a little while is putting an oil pump in and tank as i've never done it before. so a bit of research and ill probs have it done. tbh i have the time free, so if i'll be able to make more money with the bike looking good and whole, i will, however if i'm only gonna get like £1000 for the bike (near what i would get for parts) there wouldnt be much point...
