Has anyone out there replaced the pretty crap mechanical disc brake for something better ? My nephew has one of these little bikes (Very nice) and I replaced the pads for him only to discover that the internals were not complete. As there is possibly no chance of getting spares thought we'd have a go at replacing it with something that....works.
Thanks

Well, the good news is that anything you do is definately an upgrade. Including buying him some shoes with really thick soles so he can drag them on the floor to slow it down.

Umm. The main issue will be the fork diameters. I wonder if a wire wheel front end off a CG125 would fit? They have a drum brake but it's still better. Many small hondas of that era have interchangeable parts.

A TLS front end off a CD175 would be very cool but probably just as scarce (if not more so) than the parts you need.

I can confirm that it would be very difficult to fit the front end off a later CB125 twin, or even the brake calliper having had the two models parked next to one another in my garage a few years back pondering that exact question.

EDIT: The CB100N has the same (rubbish) cable operated brake calliper.

I have a CB125T2 on the ramp being renovated at the moment.I have overhauled the mechanical gubbins inside of the caliper and havve it working pretty well now.As the gasket is not available any longer I made my own.But unfortunately this was not thick enough as the pads would bind on the disc.So I have experimented with differant thickness gaskets and have now come up with the ideal. This, together with careful adjustment, seems to have made the best of what I have.

Thanks for the tips, I shall look out for another caliper. In the mean time I have had to make another adjustment, but at least it is working. I also made a gasket !
Guess we will have to stick with it.
Cheers
