Hey guys!

Been lurking on this forum for a day or so now. Just passed my bike test out in Cyprus ready to return to the UK (currently serving overseas with the military)

Sent off my D1 form to the DVLA today to get the bike entitlement added on to my GB licence.

Did my test on a massive 800cc chopper, and that literally consited of weaving through 4 cones, a U-turn, and an emergency stop - no road test at all and it took a grand total of 5 minutes!

All well and good but I'm now qualified to ride any bike with no restrictions with only basic riding skills! (Cyprus is renownd for being lax about everything!)

Returning to the UK in Nov and going to be getting a bike then. Think I'll do the sensible thing and just get a 250 until I'm more confident! Confused

So does that mean that if someone takes a holiday in Cyprus, drags themselves away from the pool for five minutes and rolls a bike a few yards around a car park they get a full UK bike licence?

In theory you should be able to take your test anywhere in the EU.

An EU driving licence is an EU driving licence.

You have to have been in the EU country for 6 months, but yes.

Any EU licence can be exchanged for a GB one for free as they apparently tested 'to the same standard' Thinking

Also if you come from outside of the EU you can usually get a 12 month international licence which allows the use of UK roads without having to do a further test.

Considering the standard of driving in many countries that is shocking IMO.

I agree, especially seeing the driving standard in Cyprus. I couldn't pass up an opportunity to get my licence for €220 though!

I wouldn't go for a 250 , go for at least 650 (restricted if required by age etc to 33bhp00

There's not enough floor for the roll-and-laugh I'm doing. Very Happy

I know, it's a bloody farce that our DfT/DSA spackers added so much unnecessary garbage in to our tests. Miserable tossers with nothing else in their lives beyond shrieking "NEIN!"

Good on you, nice to see the EU being used for something positive for a change. Thumbs Up

Probably come in cheaper as well. Laughing

Yeah get a 600 I'd say. I was shocking when I passed, probably still am but 600s give a good grunt and providing you don't have 5 tonne weights on your wrists you won't wheelie into a hedge. I'm still learning 4 months after passing

We have a place in Pernera, Cyprus & have to say that there is only really "one rule of the road on the whole of the island" & that is........ always expect the unexpected.

Yes they may ride/drive on the same side of the road as us, but that's about the only viable companion with the locals! Very Happy

That's pretty much how it used to be done in the UK before 1997, when the DVLA changed the rules. Except you didn't have a car-park, it was straight out on the roads. You rode round the block, the examiner stepped out, you did an emergency stop...and bingo! you'd passed your test.

I wouldn't limit the size of the bike so much as get an hour or two with a local riding school (possibly more) - it should be £30/h give or take.

Pernera Cyprus...know it well. It's next to Protaras. Got married at Nissi Beach 3 year ago and go to Cyprus at least once a year, we love it. Hired a softop a few times and did some exploring, went through Pernera I'm sure. It's by the Ocean Aquarium if memory serves me correct.

If I'm not on here for a week or two, you can all safely assume that I've gone on holiday...
