6 minors: I seem to be getting worse. 2 ridiculous errors (took many wrong turns despite many signs helping me) on the self navigation bit, quite embarrassing. Testers were on strike again so test was conducted with a different examiner in a car - I actually preferred it this way, being followed by a bike makes me nervous. Nice bloke too.

I've done it all without instructors or lessons... hmm interesting. Though, I only taught myself to change gear properly last week, which is probably a point against not getting lessons.

Indeed, how can you change gear 'improperly'?

Nice one, I've never even heard of anyone doing Accelerated Access. Thumbs Up

Did you do it on a training school bike on your own "Was 25kW when I rode it in, is 35kW now" bike? Wink

'Without finesse' I should have said.

Before: spending ages with the clutch in, stomping the lever

Now: foot in position, pre-load the lever, ease of throttle then flick full off, quick dab of clutch to help it over if needed.

Am I being subtly mocked? Hard to tell with you, Borg.

I'll assume not, and say yes I did indeed do it on my magic power variable bike. I was also delivered to the test centre by my invisible friend Hamish. To be fair on the examiner I think he saw through the ruse, but thankfully he wasn't suffering from giveafuck-itis, and happily took me out and even shook my hand at the end. (I did worry that he'd snuck off to call the police at the beginning, though. Ah pre-exam nerves)

Nope, pass threads are 100% SRS FACE zone.

Brilliant, it's been oft suggested but it's great to see someone actually doing it. Fuck 'em, they've brought it on themselves. Great work on you and 'Hamish' getting it done before the 3DLD mess. Thumbs Up

I'm having second thoughts about publicizing my actions in this thread, I don't want to blow it for myself or other people.

Anyway, this is my exchange with the examiner (literally first thing he says to me). Not verbatim, as recalled by myself only:

Examiner: Big bike test yes? Is your instructor with you?

Me (confused): No?

Examiner: You know that's illegal? You have to be in radio contact with an instructor at all times on a big bike.

Me (confused, improvising): Not during the test, surely?

Examiner: No not during the test. How did you get here - you must have ridden on the road?

Me (improv. cont.): Oh, well, of course I got a lift over here.

Examiner (dubious, turning to go back into the office, rushed - his car has not yet been delivered, it is late): Right. Well go sit in there and I'll be with you in a minute.

Smoooth. Razz

Shame you didn't have an actual 'Hamish' standing by, but nice work on brass necking it.

Out of interest, did you slap L plates on it and/or wear a hi-vis?
