Hi all,

Looking at a couple of ER6f's. Prices on anything car/bikewise tends to be higher as we live miles away from proper civilisation, but these look OK (i.e. only slightly high).

Bike 1
Blue
59 plate
1650 miles
£3499

Bike 2
Green
09 plate
1690 miles
£3799

The green one is pretty much mint. Scratch protectors on the heel guards, and no noticable marks. Looks to have been well looked after.

The blue one has not been as well looked after. It's OK, but has little rust patches appearing on the disc rotors.

Assuming they ride OK, I could really do with opinions on pricing, as I have no idea! There are plenty of higher mileage examples online, but nothing close to these.

All opinions appreciated! Smile

My street triple had rust patches appearing on the disc rotors after being standing while I was away. All it means is it hasn't been used recently.

Can you post up photos or links to the bikes?

They seem a little high for the years etc, bearing in mind that one of my local dealers are selling new 2011 unregistered 6f's for £4999.

There will always be room to haggle though!
What is the length of the MOT/Tax/Tyres etc?
Do they have FSH?

I take it you've had a look in all the usual sites doing a national search to try and compare?

Make sure they're the new 09 model and not just 09 plates.

They're not online unfortunately (we live in the dark ages round here), so I've only got a couple of camera shots:

The green one does have FSH I believe; not sure about the blue one. Both look in good nick consumables wise, but I've not checked tax/MOT yet. I think maybe I need more information before I post next time Embarassed

I've had a look around MCN, Autotrader, eBay, and Gumtree, but there's nothing low-mileage. It looks to be maybe £300-400 to high, but this is the first 2nd hand bike I've bought (ignoring the drunken CB400 eBay purchase Embarassed )

Interesting point about the pre-registered ones though... I'll look into that.

They're the 09 models so those prices aren't too bad, considering it's a dealership.

Dealerships tend to throw a few extra quid on them.

There will be a bit of haggling room for you. I think if you could get £300 off or round that you'll be doing good.

Only reason I ask is if the tax is short then that's £70 odd you can knock off etc..

Also would they provide you with any warrantee?

I only asked about FSH so the mileage can be verified and if the dealership won't do it, get an Hpi check on them before you buy.

Still worth checking the engine mounts and exhausts anyway though. I know they're supposed to be fixed, but...

Be aware that a "dealer MOT" might mean absolutely nothing other than that a friendly mechanic eyeballed them and punched in his tester number.

You are going to pay more from a dealer, but that money is going into rent, rates and wages, not necessarily a better bike.

This is close to me but has a lot more miles;

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201228478839790/sort/recpriceascdefault/usedbikes/cc-to/700cc/cc-from/600cc/model/er/make/kawasaki/radius/20/page/1/postcode/mk77hy?logcode=p

I think it's overpriced, if you can get some cash off then it's probably not a bad buy (prefer the green one Smile )

Just been for a (brief, and slightly damp) test ride. My god it's fast.

I tried, and failed. Everything looks intact, and in good order (and it sound's as horny as a shipwrecked teenager), but I couldn't actually get to the engine mounts to check Sad

Noted. I plan on buying private after this, but I want to part-ex my CBF to get it out of the way before the insurance runs out at the end of the month.

I started looking at ER6's again because of the blue one, but classic Kwaka is good indeed Thumbs Up

My 08 model on an 09 plate was valued as an insurance write-off at £3000 and that was better than the PX I was offered (before the accident) which was £2500 ish I think

That's proper nice. What's the plastic at the front of the tank - just a protector?

As of Tuesday, I should have a 2009, 09 plate, ER6-F in Kawasaki green.

And I shall be permanently scared until about christmas I reckon Shocked

I have one they're not that quick, okayish but pretty tame tbh.

You won't get much more than 128mph out of it.

Depends how you want to ride. They make more power than a Gixxer 600 until you're into 5 digit revs. Horsepowers for courses.

I've always wanted a twin, as I under-rev everything I ride/drive. My CB400 (50BHP IL4) pulls 'a bit' once you get up to 9/10k, but I popped the ER into 3rd at 20mph (just to test, you understand), and give it a little bit of gas. It just shot off like a scalded cat.

I am suspecting my CB no longer has the 50HP it used to - that difference can't be just 21BHP and a chunk more torque!

Don't get me wrong, I love my ER6, I really do.

I also own a Z750, which whilst faster, if I could only afford 1 bike, the Z would go.

The ER6 suits me, it's great for going to work on, filtering etc. The seat height is low (I'm only 5'8 and I can flat foot both sides etc).

The suspension is great and the power delivery is good too.

Regarding speed, the ER6, is well quick to 60 and keeps up with most bikes.

But there is no power band higher up, that propels you in to silly speeds. The ER6 gets to about a tonne quickly and then steadily upwards.

I am also thinking of changing my ER6 for a new one next year when it's 5 years old.
