Why not? I remember these from when I first got into biking. Loads of guys used to race downhill on them back in the day. Some guy who used to ride in our area had one of those carbon STS frames with some White Brothers UD150's on it, that was my dream bike for a long time!

What are the advantages of the Lefty fork? just weight and mud clearance? looks like a lovely bit of kit anyway Cool

Yup i agree, but i usually only use the ends on climbs so aeros would leave me without reachable brakes for most of my riding Rolling Eyes

Cannondale say the Lefty is lighter & stiffer. You can fix front punctures without removing the wheel.

Scott MX5.
(sorry no pics)

Apparently Scott is quite a well respected yank mountain bike maker. This must have been one of their rare misfires, then. It's pretty crap. Or at least, the third party bits fitted to it are. Shoddy brakes (can't remember brand), and barely functional Shitmano 21-speed derailleur. Plus the OEM saddle went in the bin very soon after I got the bike.

It is however, still working after 11 years with no more maintenance than an occasional drop of oil and a new tyre or inner tube, so they did something right with the frame if nothing else.

I didn't pick it, it was an insurance replacement for a cobbled-together DIY hybrid that used parts from about three different older, variously crashed bikes... Which I liked riding a whole lot more, really. Financially speaking I came out better, as it was quite valuable going by the official price list, but I'd have preferred to have got the cash and been allowed to choose.

No, no, it's not that I've left them to rot and they've become shoddy despite originally being brilliant. They were crap from the day I took delivery of it - noticeably worse than the stolen frankenbike, even - didn't respond very much to my attempts to tweak them into a better state (I was at least able to get 7th gear on the cassette ~80% of the time afterwards, and the chain no longer kept jumping off 1st and jamming, but the brakes have always been misaligned and weird and squeaky and not brilliantly effective*), and hence I haven't really been bothered to treat it like my iddle widdle pride and joy baby. It saw a great deal less use after the first year of ownership anyway, as I joined the great motorised unwashed and my fitness level rapidly crumbled. Wear-wise, it's relatively low mileage.

* except for that one time I was hurrying to park up at the station after a rain shower, hit a patch of slimy algae on a flagstone the station caretaker hadn't yet jetwashed... whilst turning and braking just a little ... and the previously rubbish front brake (impossible to even get a hint of a stoppie out of it no matter how far it was adjusted and how hard you pulled) suddenly had a flush of bravado, locked up its wheel, and sent me tumbling over the falling bars into a wall, finally spelling the end of the line for my veteran comedy purple helmet. And making me miss the frigging train.

I have a Brisith Eagle Storm

https://images.exchangeandmart.co.uk/images/afs_img/9/155/548/1345241799258_300.jpg

Bought it last year for £15 second hand to use for Uni. It works, and thats all that matters Laughing

When i went home last year for summer, i left it locked up at surbiton station for 4 months..

Came home, and it was still there, all intact with both wheels still pumped. Unlocked it and cycled back to accomodation. Its done me well so far!

I got this recently, on the cycle scheme with work, really love it, it's the first decent push bike I've ever had, makes a massive difference to how fast I can go and how hard I can push it!

https://www.evanscycles.com/product_image/image/257/47e/678/72337/large/pinnacle-lithium-four-2012-womens-hybrid-bike.jpg

It's a ladies bike but I especially like how there isn't a sparkle, flower, or bit of pink/purple on it Very Happy Plus with it not being all bright and shouty it might be a bit less of a scally magnet.

Current bikes:

Trek 1.1 2010
https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/trek_1_1.jpg

Boardman Comp 2009
https://cdn.bikechatforums.com/files/dsc_0006-2.jpg

Bought both bikes as my work were doing the cycle to work scheme, the Boardman is perfect for my occasional off-roading, whereas i really want to either upgrade or replace the Trek, it's ok as a budget road bike but i fancy something a bit more fancy. Very Happy

Ah I see, yeah I've been there with going from a good bike to a not so good bike and wondering how I ever managed with cantilever rim brakes and non indexed gears Laughing

I put a new chain ring on my bike so it rides again now:

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_8634.jpg

All I need to do now is get new forks as mine are almost dead, find a torx key set and take the front brake back off, get a new freehub body as mine is wearing out, fit a new headset as mine is very creaky, get new handlebars, grips and stem as mine are pretty old now and then it'll be a sweet bike! Laughing

There are EA50's. They were the worst wheels I've owned. Rear kept braking spokes. Allways replaced under warranty but after the 5th time, I demanded and got a new wheel. Sold them right after that and now have Durace C35. These are truly superb! The Ultegra version uses the same rim and spokes and has to be considered against trhose Elites.

Just picked up one of these tonight.

https://www.paulscycles.co.uk/smsimg/4/mf11721_revel0.jpg

Giant Revel 0 2011

Under £200 with very little milege on it. I haven't had a push bike for about 5 years, so it might be a bit of a shock getting back into it. My Son is now 3 and has had his first proper bike since Christmas and can now ride quite fast with his stabilizers, so need a bike to keep up with him when going to the shops. I want to get him off his stabilizers by his 4th bithday at the latest.

Wouldn't mind so much, but the bodged one had centre-pulls and non-indexed gears (in fact, possibly with frame-mounted controls ... certainly one of the donors had those!), and the Scott at least has a better, supposedly balanced design of rim brake and gripshifts, along with (actually pretty nice) front suspension.

But the brakes are still worse, and seemingly impossible to true up (so your choices are either a huge deadzone, or suffering them continually rubbing), and the gears are actually horrible, horrible gripshifts that I will be glad to see the back of should I ever finally get shot of it. Dear lord. Shift badly AND hurt your hand, a winning combo.

I wouldn't normally pay much mind to the frame designs etc of pedal bikes (hell, I can barely tell motorised ones apart), but there is some seriously sexy metal in this thread. Gives me aspirations of something at least with disks and pushbutton index gears. Maybe a 2x14 cylinder gear setup. Even though it'd be a huge waste of cash Very Happy
