Pedal variety of course. Just got back into it and it's as interesting as the motorised sort.

I have a 1973 Puch Alpine road bike. It's nothing fancy, just fits me well.
https://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f216/stinkwheel/1CIMG0589.jpg

I have a specialized crossroad franken-mountain bike which is a work in progress. It's on 700c wheels but I'm getting a distressing number of punctures so I may need to go down the 29" route.

2008 Giant Reign 0 for dirty stuff.
https://www.nsmb.com/assets/images/gear/giant08/08reign_review/reign_full1.jpg
(Library picture, mine has a remote adjustable seat post but is otherwise stock.)
Currently on a Specialised Glove Vienna 1 for 'getting around',
https://i1153.photobucket.com/albums/p519/jdbrad/Specialized%20Globe%20Vienna%201%202010/Aug22-10448_resize.jpg
But got a Charge Scourer on the way because it came out at not much more than upgrading the gearing on the above.
https://chargebikes.com/bikes/scourer/images/scourer.jpg

Still not sure whether to keep the two hybrids, or sell the Vienna - I'll be happier leaving that around town, but then we're talking doubling up on kit etc (it now has mudguards, lock and pannier stuff.)

Also got an electric push bike, but needs new batteries and trying to burn some calories at the moment as well as saving fuel money. Calories=chocolate!

Thorn Brevet from St John St cycles for proper rides; old model Kona Cinder Cone from ebay for riding with my daughter - I could barely keep the Brevet upright at the speeds she calls fast; the Kona I can happily ride at walking pace Smile

@ Stink wheel - have you tried specialized armadillos? Been using them for ages me self and get far less punctures than my old shwables and halford tyres.

Nowhere near knobbly enough I'm afraid.

I'm using it for stuff like this:
https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7181/6872323596_11b68225b9_c.jpg

I'm running on Schwalbe CX pros at the moment.

The problem is they just aren't a high enough profile. They're fine for climbing and amazing on wet grass and mud but if you get up to speed on a stony descent, they can't keep the rims from bottoming out over big, pointy rocks.

Didn't know they were available. Genius idea.

I ride a fairly stock Carrera Fury. Seriously tempted to put together something more road biased as most of my mileage is currently around town.

Does your model have a lock-out on the forks?

If so; get some road tyres for a big improvement (presuming you haven't).
Can always up the gearing a bit too if you're running out of puff - and still have the majority of mountain bike abilities there.

This for big stuff:

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/Vario.jpg

This for jumps and commuting:

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/identiti.jpg

Currently seeking a new chainring for my jumpbike after this happened:

https://img.photobucket.com/albums/v331/serenaur/IMG_7680_zps7b97ad6f.jpg

And would very much like something like G's Reign for all day rides but I don't have any money to justify spending on a bike at all at the moment.

Yeah, it's the 2007 model so it's got the Tora 318 forks on it. Using Schwalbe Landcruisers on it as I like to do a bit of a mix of surfaces when out playing and they handle it all admirably but anything more than 15-20 miles of tarmac and it drags, plus the gearing is a bit lower than I'd like.

Need to do some research and decide what I actually want.

A friend had the same model - nice 'do it all' bike.

He did the London to Brighton and finished ahead of me on fair-bit-lighter but otherwise similar GT Avalanche Pro; I had road tyres and he had the originals too!

Christ, the Conti "Gravity" are akin to Farmer Johns. Fair play to him Thumbs Up

I do like the bike, paid just over £100 for it a few years back and it's been great. First time I actually went off road riding the forks were a revelation, bear in mind that I was riding competitively back around '91, V brakes were still fairly new technology let alone serious suspension gear Laughing

Decided to buy a "new" bike a while ago. Decided I wanted a steel frame, rigid forks, and no BS.

I could have bought some new equivalent, but realised quite quickly that what i really wanted was my old mountain bike back from when i was a kid, but with an adult size frame. Cue a trip to ebay, where I picked up an early 90's Trek 820 Antelope in perfectly serviceable condition for the princely sum of £20.

And its exactly as I remembered. Light, very nimble, and pretty much indestructible. I might go crazy and fit some V-brakes.

Looks pretty much like this (but without the bar ends and parcel shelf thingys -

My Giant (rather than a random one off the 'net), first time ridden properly despite 10 months ownership or so!

https://dl.dropbox.com/u/18968307/IMAG0478.jpg

As per the other thread - unfortunately I didn't have SPD shoes to go with the pedals, which made some of the fast downhill bits a bit 'interesting' as no real grip with the stuff there.

First time using the remote seat thingy in anger and very much liking it. Though, to start with I'd leave it a bit late on a descent and think "I need to brake/not die on this steep bit, better put the seat down so I can get my butt back", then be right on top of the section while still faffing with the lever. Fairly quickly got used to it.

Specialized Hard Rock Pro, a few uprated bits I'm now just waiting on Hydraulic rear calliper to match the front and I have a set of combined brake/gear levers to go on it.

https://sphotos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/475804_10151156313668476_1735380488_o.jpg

Sun Solo, it an 80's frame with a few modern bits, still getting used to how it rides, much more twitchy than my MTB and the gears are fiddly. but it is surprisingly comfortable considering the position.

If you moved the brakes up the bars it would help a great deal - give you something to rest on as a start.
