We're moving house soon so hopefully we'll get a bigger basement. I'm also seriously thinking about spending some money on some rigid forks, slick tyres and a new (non adjustable!) stem for the Specialised as it's spending 95% of it's life on road.

Just finished Mrs stinkwheels new MTB.

I made her the wheels for our wedding anniversary, gave her the groupset for her Birthday and the frame and forks for her Christmas.

I should point out that Mrs stinkwheel assembled the whole bike herself, under supervision. I did the wheelbuilding and battered the headset bearings in but she did the rest.

It's an on-one 456 650B the 456 means it's designed to take 140,150 or 160mm travel forks (pretty tall for a hardtail) and the geometry is setup so you are agressively over the front wheel with the shortest possible stem.

650b is the new-old wheel size on the block, halfway between the traditional 26" and the bigger 29". The larger rolling diameter means it rolls up over rocks and tree roots easily, it also means you can have a larger contact patch on a narrower tyre. So the 2.25" tyres I have on this one have a larger contact patch than a 2.5" tyre on a 26" wheel.

I've gone for a shimano SLX groupset throughout and used their 29"er specific hubs because they take bolt-on rather than spline fit discs (splined fittings on motorcycles are nothing but trouble and this is more delicate).

The SLX gear is not as light as the XTR but it's pretty tough and very functional. A step-up from the deore. I particularly wanted to have a 2x10 gearing setup because Mrs stinkwheel doesn't like changing up and down front chainrings. I'd have gone for a 1x11 but that means SRAM, extended freewheel hubs and the consumables are epic expensive. Maybe a step too far.

The range of gears this setup gives is actually bigger than her old 3x9 deore setup and I reckon you could climb just about anything on the lowest gear.

I used a lot of the on-one componants because they are pretty much designed to fit this bike. I used an FSA semi-integrated headset because they just work and the inevitable FSA flat bars keeping in tune with the "over the front wheel" ethos of this bike. The forks were a straightforward but tidy second hand set of 150mm fox float evos to keep it simple, she doesn't look after her bikes very well so if she wants fancier forks, she can always upgrade.

I was unsure about the orange cable outers but I must say, they seem to play. One-one have "views" about exposed cabling on MTBs and as such, make it difficult to fit anything but fully outered cables by having plain tubular cable guides. Keeps shifting sweet.

I'm pretty pleased with my cable routing. My first foray into cutting back, re-jigging and bleeding bycycle hydraulic systems. Having the proper tools is, as always, everything.

I purchased this Trek off a for sale page on Facebook in mid February and I've racked up roughly 600-700 miles on it.

Its got old mechs,52/39 crankset and a 26-13 cassette but it worked well,a good started bike for me anyway.

It was in need of tlc when I got it,most of the parts were quite worn but I made do with them but with the Etape Caledonia coming up I decided to buy a replacement,I was going to service the bike but decided it was pointless and got a good deal on this

Smooth gear changes,great for the hills with the 30-11 rear cassette and a triple crankset up front 50/39/34 so its ideal round here with all the hills. Its taking me a while to get use to it though,its maybe a tad heavier especially at the rear but I'm liking it.

I've just added a Canondale CAAD 10 to the collection via the ride to Work scheme. It amazing responsive compared to my Ribble Audax 7005 winter training bike

I've also got a 2008 Kona Plus Four Deluxe full suspension mountain bike and a 1991 Trek 970 steel framed hard tail mountain bike I've owned from new.

Ridgeback 703DX

Back in the day I worked for Madison who own Ridgeback and are the UK importers of Shimano. 5 of these were stolen from the old warehouse in Horseshoe Close NW2 and found 18 months later unused with various scratches and the seats and seat posts gone so I bought 2 of them for £180 each, they were about £750 retail.

Deore DX throughout but the best part is the Tange Prestige frame so nice and light as well as very strong Araya RM20 rims so far from delicate.

Felt AR3 with a decent spec, Fulcrum red xlr wheels, SRAM red 10sp groupset.

What a difference to the Scott speedster 40, its so light in comparison and so much faster, it climbs really well and I'm loving the climbs again, I'm setting new PB's left right and centre.

Been into my pedal bikes since i was proper young, even before i even took a passing interest in motorbikes. Only ever bothered with mountain bikes really, road just doesnt do it for me, however funnily enough i dont have that much interest in off road motorbiking for some reason...

Current whip is an 08 Marin Wolfridge, Marzocchi 55R's, SLX groupset and brakes, race face atlas bars and a sunline stem, hope hubs all round, and spd's at all times The wheels are different colours cause i smashed the back one to bits up in the lakes a while ago. Had it for the last 4 years and its always been a good bike, just did C2C on it and it was brilliant on that

I've got back into cycling this year. After losing four stone last year I wanted to improve my strength and fitness.

I bought a Cannondale CAAD10 105 on the rode to work scheme and have been really enjoying the speed compared to my old Ribble 7005 Audax/winter bike

I've also just bought a 2015 Cannondale Trigger 4 full sus MTB for the bargain price of £999 (reduced from £2699 ).

Paid just over £100 new (it had a scratch on the frame) back in '08, and its been alright, only had to change a couple of cables and the brakes pads*. Not bad for a budget bike.

After something more suited to road riding though.

Joining the club with a new bike.

It's a single speed/fixed gear (flip the rear wheel) and also the lightest bike I've ever owned. Last week I finished my first 100 miles on it, and then flipped it over to fixed gear at the weekend to see what all the fuss is about.
