Bought my first bike, yeah!

Been looking for ages in the days heading up to payday later this week and finally agreed to buy a bike. It is a Honda CG125, 1991, and it's RED

Offered £600 for it and was accepted. I thought it was a fair price and I am happy to pay for what condition it is in.

Not bad at all. Getting a non-chinese fully ticketed half decent 125 for that price is pretty good going, and it sounds as though it's been looked after.

Are you going to take your tests on it before Jan, or just using it to run around on?

...I've just realised you must be the guy who contacted me about mine as you were going to be riding it back to Crewe from here, just the 1:45 to 2 hour ride... instead of the 4:45 to 5 hour ride from Penarth!!

I don't suppose you'd do me a favour and let me know why you chose that one over mine so I could alter my advertising as I'm clearly doing something very wrong. Please don't take this the wrong way I am really interested to know as I've never had to sell a motorbike before and any little tips would be helpful.

Today on my day off I got a lift up to J & S Accessories near to Northwich with the intent of buying all of the necessary safety kit. I had £250 to spend all in. It is not a lot I know but I managed to get everything I came for (aside from boots).

I went in and walked straight up to the desk to ask for help in choosing. My request was met with pleasure from one of the sales assistants who duly came off of the till and starting showing me the kit on offer. I gave him my budget and he paused for second, I was half expecting him to turn around and say that there was sweet FA I could get for that, but he instead started showing me some of the lower-priced clothing that they had.

I tried a few things on and chose a pair of well-fitting Frank Thomas trousers and a RST heavy weight jacket. They were for £80 and £70 respectively and both are waterproof and should see me through the winter.

I went to pick a helmet from their extensive selection and again got greats service from the gent. He picked out a number of helmets in my price range and allowed me to try each one on to make sure it was the correct fit. I eventually settled on a Duchinni helmet with an integral sun visor for £50. It fits really well and I don't feel at all claustrophobic when wearing it.

Same good service when picking gloves, I got a pair of RST winter gloves for £30. Again waterproof and thermally insulated so good for the cold weather ahead.

I did try on a pair of boots but could not afford the extra to pay for them so I left them for now. I should be okay for riding back with a pair of steel toe capped boots any way.

I also picked up the all-important set of "L" plates for a couple of quid to attach to the bike.

Great service all in from J&S and will definitely go back when I need to buy more kit for the bike, can't knock them at all. I could not have bought anything online due to the difference in sizing and the necessity to try before you buy.

Just insurance to sort out tonight and tomorrow in preparation for picking up the bike on Saturday.

Insurance is now sorted.

I went in the with CIA for £297 PA TPO including legal cover for personal injury. Ended up being £359 with monthly payments so a bit more than I was expecting but just happy to get it over and done with. It is insured through Aviva so I am hoping to get decent service in the event of a claim.

Woohoo made it back in one piece after many hours of riding

The bike is brill although there are some niggles with the 'lectrics that need attending to. The front low beam is none-existent and high beam is in the wrong switch position The horn needs fixing as the connector snapped as I was riding home.

It got be back from Penarth easily enough keeping up 50-60mph on most flat roads, dual carriageways are a bore though. I managed to get back on a tank and have added an extra fiver for tomorrow's riding.
