Ok, need a little help here, I came home from a night out and decided to put some porridge on the stove....and go to bed...

So I woke up saturday morning and the place fucking stinks, smoke etc, the pan is a write off, the spoon is burnt down nearly to the stick bit. Got all windows open, its an apartment not a house so I cannot get a back to front draft going. Got a fan in the lounge to blow the air towards the windows but tbh it still stinks here. I was hoping to get out of here in the next couple of weeks so obviously need the smell to go asap!

TL:DL = burnt food for 7 hours on stove and flat stinks

Any advice?

Baking soda's a good deodouriser, do the shake and vac on the cheap.

Put the cooker hood extract on and go out for the day.

Don't go near the stove when you've been out drinking... We have a member who did that and the results were bad...

Place bowls of white vinegar everywhere around the flat. Wash all the soft furnishings. As above with the carpet but if you don't have any baking soda you might as well buy shake n vac cos it deodorises and adds a fresh smell too.

hahahahahahahaahaa!!

Try filling the saucepan 3/4 full with water, putting a teaspoon of (any) clothes-washing powder in there, and bring it to the boil, then just let it simmer for a while.

It will remove the worst of the burnt from the saucepan, as an added bonus, and without having to scrub too hard - (although it sounds like the saucepan is probably fucked anyway) but the smell of it will also help dissipate smells.

Try some bowls of white vinegar around the place.

FYI, you can sprinkle white vinegar rather than leave bowls of it about. The smell only lasts 3-4 hours and it usually does take away whatever pong is offending. I've used it for kitten poo smell as well as wet dog smell, and it works very well.

Its also blinding for keeping spiders out, I rarely have any of those big autumn spiders in the house cos round about early September, I sprinkle all the floors with my famous Boris-busting solution of white vinegar and orange essential oil.

Febreeze the shit out of everything. EVERYTHING. Then buy many Glad plug-ins and have them all switched up to high. Wad up tissues and stick them up your nose if you cannot bear the overly flowery stench.

Serious answer - cut up some lemons, put in a pan with water and boil them up for a while. Leave out cups of white vinegar too.

Can we see a picture of the burnt-down-to-the-stick stirring utensil, please ... Laughing

You could try one of those smoke odour bombs designed for use in cars, for example:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Dakota-Car-ODOR-BOMB-Eliminator/dp/B006T1MBNI/ref=pd_sim_sbs_auto_1

I bought a used car a while ago which smelt like it had been lived in by a chain smoking, rough sleeping wet dog and although it didn't entirely remove the stink it at least meant that I could drive without having to have all 4 windows fully open even in the rain.
