Inspired by a couple of posts in this thread, I wondered what BCF thought was the best TV comedy moment of ever*?

It's a tough and tricky choice, but for me 1st place has to be awarded to:

Fawlty Towers - The Germans

Maybe it's just me, but whenever I'm with any Germans, I find myself constantly biting my lip and thinking 'Don't mention the war.....don't mention the war....don't mention the war......'

By a very narrow margin, the runner up is:

Alan Partridge has lunch with Tony Hayers (aka smell my cheese you mother!)
(2nd part of the scene here

This just shows Alan at his cringe-worthy best, slimy, obsequious, yet completely devoid of any social skills. The way he shrugs when he's introduced to one of Tony's colleagues is just pure Partridge gold, as are his ideas for new TV programmes.

So come on BCFers, post your 1st place and runner ups here....

*Note: TV shows only, no films, even if they've been shown on TV.

I'll throw in an obvious contender:

Del Boy falls through the bar - Only Fools and Horses

Nah, it has to be the Court room scene in the Bilko episode "The Court Martial" where they're trying a chimp they mistakenly enlisted in the army as Private Harry Speakup. The whole episode is a hoot, but the court scene is a total blast. They recorded it live, and Silvers does a great ad lib when the chimp wanders off and plays with the phone, "I think he's calling for another lawyer sir". The show had great writing and acting talent, and Silvers always does the patter to a tee, but the above episode steals it.

They don't make em like that any more

The Dictionary scene in Blackadder III.

"Oh, I'm sorry, sir. I'm anispeptic, frasmotic, even compunctuous to have caused you such pericombobulation."

A lot of shows have utterly hilarious moments but requires time with the show to fully appreciate. Adds a little 50/50 factor in to whether it should be judged highly.

Friends was and still is one of my highest rated comedy shows of all time, but close runners are New Girl, Arrested Development, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Green Wing, Scrubs etc

I've seen a lot of the older generation stuff too, the end of Blackadder gets me emotional still. I think Im a british lad with a very american sense of humour. Horrible thing to admit really.

One of the scenes I was crying with laughter at that sticks out in my mind:

Ross and Joey "Sorry"

I remember at that funeral...funny as fuck.

“Have you got a battery for an Ericsson?”

That Castrol GTX jacket. Laughing

You have to be quite switched on to catch all of Alan’s little quirks it all seems so real, so plausible but at the same time you have to remember it’s written. The timing of the script is perfection and there are few people who can keep up with Coogan.
I’ve seen pretty much everything Alan Partrdige, knowing me knowing you, I’m Alan etc...once you get to know him, you enjoy the little quirks so much more later on. The new ‘Morning Matters’ shows had me in stitches because he’s back to his old ways. The wine tasting episode had me crying.

I'm with Gixxer on the German scene but another one that has to be up the top end of the table is this gem:

To the uninitiated this is an episode from "Still Game", don't think the first series was shown outside Scotland.

Watch this from 22:22 to 25:16.
First time I saw this I was, really, crying with laughter.

If you've not seen "Still Game" it is very funny, although if you're not tuned into the Scottish vernacular you might find it a bit confusing!

No youtube at work but

Gavin and Smithy running down the hospital corridor and both sliding over on the wet floor and getting up and continuing like nothing happened.

Victor Meldrew Answering the dog instead of the phone in One foot in the grave

Dr Alan Stathem battering the dwarf with a heron in Greenwing

I'd forgot all about that. Thanks for the reminder Smile Alan Statham was a spectacular character I have no idea how he got through those scenes with a straight face. More:
