i have fiberglass fairings on my bike. theres cracks in the fairings, some go compeltely through, some only crack the top layer. some of the top layer has also come off in places, exposing the strands of fiberglass. there was also wrongly drilled holes by the previous owner that i would like to fill and make flush. the mounting holes are also a bit scruffy with little bits shipped off which i would like to fix. part of it is a little bit flimsy that i would like to reinforce. most online tutorials are for abs. whats the best way to go about this?

hiya jordey . i was just repairing fairings today .
i have never done fibreglass fairings before only perspex and plastic type .

but i reckon the best way to repair fibre glass would be with fibreglass

by the sounds of it theres not to much you need to repair so it shuoldnt knock you to much to buy a small tin of resin some sheets of fibre matt and a lil bit of hardner .

if you have never used fibre glass before dont worry its very easy to do once you know how .

you can buy fibre sheets ,resin ,hardner .seperatly so if its cheaper to do so. rather than buying a kit i would . i reckon the hardest part about it is finding out how much quantity you need .

theres lotts of tutorials for it on youtube bro . just incase you have not used it before

Super glue and baking powder (but dont breath in the fumes it produces), fill the gap with baking powder then using GOOD quality medium CA (get it from model shops) put it over the top of the powder. Stand back as it goes mad expanding and filling every crack/hole with something that is as hard as nails (you watch when you sand it down). Radio Control model aircraft builders have been doing it for years to fill gaps in wood and plastic (guilty as charged).

with the outer coating, which is gelcoat by the way, you can use p38 two part filler used for car repairs. easily to sand will bond to the fibres because it is a fibreglass filler. you can also buy p40 filler but this has strands of glass fibres in it so would be too rough for the top layer but you could use it to start filling holes etc. Halford's sell both the above as well as a fibreglass repair kit. hope this is helpful for you.
