No, because if the cam chain skips a tooth in the process you'll end up with one very fucked engine.
Set the engine to TDC on cylinder 1, gently remove the current CCT, fit the new one making sure everything's clean and no shite has got into the hole, tension it up and then turn the engine over several turns by hand (socket on the end of the crank). If that's ok then fire her up once you're sure everything's back together properly.

Ignore the above. On a 4cyl bike it's fine to take it out and replace it.

I would still do it at TDC1 just to be sure that all the slack was on the tensioner side of the chain.

So what are the other cylinders doing whilst it's at TDC1? It makes no odds.

The reason I suggested putting it to TDC is that in the (admittedly unlikely) event of the chain slipping, you know where the engine is and where the cams should be.

I am not familiar with cbr tensioners but surely you could just loosen off the spring inside, then remove it, that will keep it tensioned until it is right out and just pop the new one in.

So long as you fit the new one in the correct order it'll be fine.
Reset it, put the first part in and bolt it on properly, then put the spring in.
