i was thinking and it came to mind that the DVLA should be disbanded and all the licensing and vehicle registry (and other stuff) they deal with should be moved over to the DSA, the government appointed officials.

i dont think this would really put anyone out of work because the DSA would have to expand and well hey, those jobs would need filling so just chuck the dvla workers into the dsa.

but i dont understand why we have the driving standards agency for testing and so on and still let the dvla continue with thier cock ups over simple license and vehicle registry.

so, should the dvla be combined into the dsa, the dsa into the dvla or leave as is?

personally i think that if the dsa handled the licensing and registries, there might just be a little less errors coming about from the dvla. after all, the dvla must run a rather idiotic system for the number of mistakes coming out of it as they cant all be from human error

They both serve different purposes so you couldn't just slap them all in an office.

They do however, do work in the same 'industry' so you could have a few buildings on the same site, probably wouldn't help increase their efficiency mind, allot of the staff and rules there seem purposely retarded.

I got a letter from them demanding/charging £25 for a v5C for the RD, I rang them and protested paying such a price for someone to click a button and print a sheet of paper; the letter stated it was legislation so when I questioned it they said it wasn't legislation just policy so I had a rant about them being a private organisation using legal lawful wording to profit from motorists... she wasn't too entertained. Crying or Very sad

In the same context as Banks charging silly amounts for overdraft & charges notification letters; I will not pay £25 for a replacement v5.

Get rid of VED, put it on fuel, and hand licensing over the post office. Burn Swansea to the ground. Machine gun any survivors.

For fucks sake Roger, it's already ON fuel enough.

Get rid of the "Tax Disc" and make it an "Insurance Disc".

Save all the hassle... just ban all vehicles... let's go back to the days of the horse and cart... other than farting animals there wasn't a lot of whinging about the 'ozone/carbon footprint/environmental damage/co2/harmful emissions etc'.

To be honest, the DVLA needs to stay... where else can you get such a large department of 'potato' counters in one area?

Why the need for tax discs? If you tax your vehicle and the system is instantly updated then why the fuck waste money issuing them?

What needs to be instant is putting insurance details on the MID. Too many people being pulled over when they have just insured their vehicles...more annoyingly, being pulled over after hours and not being able to ring the company up to confirm cover Evil or Very Mad

We'd be talking pennies, about the same as the next "fuel duty escalator" guff. But yes, being raped in three orifices (VED, duty, and VAT up the Gary) at once does seem excessive.

Plod demonstrably goes by MID and phoning insurers now (and then believing whatever lie the incompetent mong gets told) so I'm not sure what that would achieve.
