Does anyone know if you can be done for stunting on private land (with permission). i.e. an industrial estate with large tarmac areas etc and permission from the land owner?

If a copper came along is he in the right to book you for anything? I assume he wouldn't even be able to do you for race cans etc until you step onto the public roads?

T.C any ideas?

I'd have thought, so long as you did have permission from land owner, that you'd be okay. Rozzers might want to do you for noise or something, but because you're not on 'queen's highways' you're not doing anything illegal.

But, I'm not a legal expert. So what do I know? Wink

They could propably do you for disturbing the peace or something like that if its a busy area or give you an ASBO.

I renember something a couple of years ago about a new law, cant renember all the details though, mainly aimed at off road bike in feilds but probably still applies to this.

It was something along the lines that the police didn't need to find out if you have the land owners permission before they chucked you out if somebody complained.

I thought the idea was if you could access the area by public roads then normal rules applied ie if you could normally drive onto the industrial estate. Maybe if there is a closed gate then it is different rules.

Usually no, but as some have said industrial areas and carparks don't have the same rules as Private Land. If they have public access and you're doing something dangerous (I know I know) then they can do you.
With private land the Police can only enter your land with your consent, unless they have reasonable suspicion that a law is being broken, and pissing about on a bike still aint illegal... yet.

Could also do you for insurance. How many of us have insurance policies that include stoppies/wheelines and the like. Certainly not me. So in theory you could be done for riding without insurance, which is illegal regardless of where you are*?

*This is just my thought, I could of course be wrong. If anyone else knows better, please let me know and I Smile

Insurance covers you for riding in general AFAIK. Don't think messing about on a bike voids your insurance at all. Wouldn't suprise me though Laughing

Hi

Don't think they could do you for no insurance. However if there is public access then basically the road traffic act applies and then they can quite happily do you for wheelies, knee down or anything else they feel like.

Suspect to do it officially would cost quite a lot for liability insurance, far more than £5 per person just on that. The liability respect is why I am not keen on solely organising a session playing silly buggers at the local airfield.

In the mainland UK I think closing a road for racing (and closing it for playing silly buggers is likely to be the same) requires an act of parliament. This is why there is basically no road racing in the UK but plenty in the IOM and Northern Ireland,

All the best

Keith

They used to do a stunt day at Elvington.

I believe they stopped when their insurance went up from £2000 to £10000 or something like that.

I have been meaning to look into this sort of thing, but life has been a bit hectic as of late Sad.

Oh and the place that does that airfield is closed between 1 and 2 Sad.

And if you don't have proper public liability insurance, anyone who suffers an injury and/or damage to their property (vehicle) could be sued directly. I don't think there's even a limit there! Beware.
