How much do they vary from bike to bike?
Can I find dimensions for barrels anywhere?
I am after several dimensions, priority being; key hole size and radius of the outer rings (usually with the wording on)

not quite sure what you are asking . do you mean the diameter of the cap what goes over the top of the barrel ?. all units tend to be different you cannot really switch them about or swap parts to suit another .as the locks pins will not fit and fire . if you want to change the unit completely you need to have it matched up at the mounting points and at the steering lock

I've googled dimensions for any barrel and found nothing that helps.
Im trying to make something, based on most of the dimensions for a motorcycle ignition barrel.

i have a few various makes of bike in the garage. i can measure up some relatively easy to get dimensions for you . but i dont really want to take my ignition blocks apart i have enough maintenance to do as it is . and if i dropped any pins on my garages floor chances are i would never find them again . its a bit messy

i dont know if you have ever taken an ignition apart before but it looks something like this

https://s15.postimage.org/nh5f0kw3f/keylock_exploded_door.gifimage

you see above where it says lock service package . illustrated on the sides of that are the pins .
the notches in your key are all cut differently to accommodate for the key .
when you insert the key it pushes those pins outwards releasing the sleeve so it can be turned .
at the bottom of the ignition assembly there is a plate that revolves with the turn of the key .
this plate matches up to a fixed one that is adjacent creating a contact point and closing your ignition circuit .
so you see you cannot change integral ignition parts for others very easily if at all in some cases .
as the sleeve and the barrel are made to measure

if you are just looking for a replacement ignition to fit a certain yoke
or something . theres plenty of options about i can find u something that will fit if you tell me what bike u need it for

keyhole size is roughly 11mil
all ignitions vary from brand to brand of bike but as far the outer ring (cap) thats also roughly the same sort of size somewhere around 20mil
