There's an article on the BBC news website about how bad the traffic is in Sao Paulo:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-19660765

It goes on about why the traffic is so bad, but not once are bikes mentioned as a good way to get through the traffic even though the first picture in it shows a few bikes filtering. The article even mentions helicopters!

I use my bike to commute through a city centre and it pretty much guarantees a 30 minute journey - in a car it can be 1hr 30. So, are bikes being ignored as a viable solution to congestion? I know they won't work for everyone (people who need to carry a lot of things, parents etc.) but surely some people could be coaxed out of their cars?

Shhh......

Don't let everyone know or the advantage we have now will disappear faster than a cock up a HD riders backside Laughing

Good things are best kept secret.

While you could get far more bikes into the space of cars. You often can get more people into a car.... Or a bus.

Awaits pic of 10 on a bike in India now Laughing

The Get-On campaign was supposed to help promote the use of bikes for fuel saving and congestion, as well as the fact that it'll be safer if more people are doing it.
TBH most people I speak to have never heard of Get-On though.

They need condoms, not bikes.

Eh, we're always an afterthought. Traffic For London doesn't tend to even mention (proper) bikes in their surveys or reports.

I always get a lul from watching Top Gear "urban challenges" where they studiously avoid ever using a proper-bike, while at the same time doing all their filming from them. Rolling Eyes

Two best things I saw in India, both on CG125s (everyone was):

Two blokes on a bike, one on the front seat, the other on the luggage rack (6kg limit my arse), with a fridge freezer on the pillion seat, and the passenger holding a 25kg butane cylinder in one hand.

Two blokes on a bike, rider had an intravenous drip in his arm, the pillion was happily holding the bag up above his head! I so wish I'd been quick enough with the camera for this one; I'll never forget it as long as I live.
