I still only have under a years experience on bikes however with 4000 miles under my belt i have fallen in love with biking and I'm already planning what i like to call "mini tours" on my little YBR 125. If we manage to get a day of decent weather I'll be going from Lancashire to sunny Dundee Wink

I'll be getting a 33bhp bike next summer i don't feel like i need anymore power for my touring needs

Just thought i would share my experience so far

Cheers

Below are some pics of my adventure so far

That first photo is stunning, I love summer nights like that. Today when I was out on the bike (only been riding a year like you) it struck me actually how much I love biking, and then I thought about all those people who tuck their bike away for the winter. I couldn't imagine doing that, if I don't ride for 4 or 5 days I get an itch to get out on the bike. Almost like an addiction.

Apparently it helps if you read my posts in Stephen Moore's "Marvin" voice.

Just sayin'...

I would get on with booking your tests before it's too late - or its a long road of pain after Jan '13

You will. A big bike with a big engine makes touring so much more relaxed.

Not really true if you are crazy like me, every crash is an adventure in itself and although I've had my fair share I still love riding.

Anyway thats getting off of the subject slightly! Photos are good! Keep it up Wink

I've done motorways on my CBF125 Smile Sits at 70mph nicely, keeps up with the flow of traffic! Get your license done and it will take you half the time to get anywhere using a motorway (or double the time, in rush hour. Laughing)

Also I thought the new laws were 19+ you can ride a bike up to 46.6bhp however it doesn't automatically upgrade to a full A license like the current a2, 2 years is compulsory to qualify you to take your "big" bike test....at least that's what i thought but i may be wrong

Then a restricted gsf600s for my touring needs if i am right

My point was that there isn't going to be a test that allows you to ride <33bhp. There will be a new restriction, yes, but I can't remember what power that is but it is definitely more than it is now anyway.

46.6bhp Basis of the restricted below.. bhp might be a tad off I am asleep still

Quote:
At 19, you can sit an A2 test on a 395cc+ 25 (maybe 20)-35kW bike (e.g. a GS500) and get an A2 license. This will allow you to ride any size of bike making no more than 35kW and not restricted down from a bike that makes more than 70kW.

That's right (I would say that, I wrote it).

The point to note is that as of next January, you'll lose the ability to get a worthwhile license by sitting the tests on your own 125. You'll need to pay to go via a training school, or find some other 'legal' (Shifty) route to get a big bike to a test centre.

Nothing beats long distance solo trips on a bike. You will find it much nicer on a bigger bike, with the power to overtake and sit comfortable at speeds of 140 kmh +

that pic at squiers looks horrendous. What a crowd....I would be heading in the opposite direction
