Hi all

Own a 1996 Bandit 600

It has a K&N pannel filter in standard airbox
A stubby exhaust can
A 6 degree ignition advance (or so i was told)
Carbs completley standard and in good clean condition
No Air leaks at all anywhere I have checked several times.

My issue is trying too get a steady idle, she flutters around the 8-900 rpm mark, and will cut out if not reved every now and again.
If i adjust the idle speed to bring the revs up, the revs drop slowly from 3-4k too idle and runs a bit rough.

I have balanced the carbs and they look fairly well inline acording too the guage.

However downpipe number 1 is dented and proberly pinched about 3/4 shut!.

My issue has seemed too of got steadily worse Crying or Very sad

Any help at all is much appreciated Thumbs Up

When I have starting issues first thing I check is leaks on intake, which you have done. I would then sell it for a proper FI bike Smile

Idle should be around 1200-1500 on a bandit? (or any IL4 600, im guessing)

Dont think the downpipe will make much differnce at idle speeds.. but then I hate carbs.

How long have you had it, was it running fine before?

Tell me about it! FI bikes lovely and smooth carbs can be too but alot of effort is needed Sad I have had it for around 6 months, idle has never been right, but recently has got slightly worse.

One of many bikes I have had trouble with, but the idle issue is a bit annoying! valve clearences have also been done, or so i was told.

She runs lovely above 2k no flatspots, the most fun I have had on a bike as it has plenty of "useable power" which makes it nice. Im 23 now, but a few years ago me and some friends would take the mick out of bandit riders (like you do when you own sport bikes) but standard there a bit wishy washy imo but she has progressive springs etc which make it nice and stiff at the front end! and great fun to ride.

Really cheap parts etc, just would like too try sort this issue out as I plan too keep her for a while Thumbs Up

also forgot to mention if I can hover the revs at 1100 with throttle and it seems too idle fairly smooth.
