Enough of all you lot who wank and play xbox when not working Mr. Green

Here is something more motivational. Headed out to country pubs for a beer breakfast, then lunch, off road. 150 km round trip.

Leaving Pretoria on a beautiful spring day. The gravel starts like 6 km from my house

https://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/hvandermerwe62/egons/IMG-20120929-00415.jpg

Need a break to enjoy the empty space and stunning day

https://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/hvandermerwe62/egons/IMG-20120929-00416.jpg

https://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/hvandermerwe62/egons/IMG-20120929-00417.jpg

Arrive at Que Sera, a bikers pub about 30 km from home. It is quiet on a saturday and the groud riders do sunday breakfast runs. Suits me fine as I hate crowds

https://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/hvandermerwe62/egons/IMG-20120929-00419.jpg

have a Hansa pilsner amidst the bikes. Just road riders in the pub. seems to be only BMWs here today. Send a PM to Cornish about the trip she is missing
Mr. Green

Continue on towards Witpoort> it is 50 km of gravel roads until the next pub.

Then turn towards Waaikraal

https://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/hvandermerwe62/egons/IMG-20120929-00421.jpg

Time for another stop. Guess what for? Mr. Green

https://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/hvandermerwe62/egons/IMG-20120929-00422.jpg

https://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/hvandermerwe62/egons/IMG-20120929-00423.jpg

Damn, she is beautiful

https://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/hvandermerwe62/egons/IMG-20120929-00424.jpg

https://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/hvandermerwe62/egons/IMG-20120929-00425.jpg

these things are dangerous. Drainage pipes. They are at an angle, and often the top is broken. if you hit a break they take your front wheel and you high side over the handle bars. Many an off road biker has seen his arse hitting a broken or collapsed pipe at speed.

A bushcat kaya

https://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/hvandermerwe62/egons/IMG-20120929-00428.jpg

The road is misleading. It can be very sandy in places. Varies from hard rock, to compacted clay, to loose gravel, to sand

A little rural shop catering for the local black needs

https://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/hvandermerwe62/egons/IMG-20120929-00431.jpg

Arrive at a littlke private pub. Word of mouth only.

https://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m270/hvandermerwe62/egons/IMG-20120929-00432.jpg

Ah...refreshing. After about 4 of them, it is 30 km home.

Nice way to spend a saturday morning and afternoon

It's easy to see why sports bikes would not be at all popular in SA, apart from those that spend 99% of their life being polished in a centrally heated garage.

They are popular. With the weekend warrior crowd and commuters. Just where you can go is limited. Read that less than 13% of our roads are tarred. They connect the amin towns, but that is about it. Farms are all on gravel roads.

we do. But this is africa. Law is relative. Jungle law rules, and the only law that applies is those were bribes are not possible. At those level of crimes, people bribe chiefs and ANC types to make dockets disappear. Mr. Green

Love it, keep 'em coming. We need to 'shock' some of the youth on here out of their comfort zones.

I could never live in a country where the pubs are 30k apart.

What do you do for things like ambulances/first aid when you're out in the bush?

In some places towns 100 km apart.

On a long trip I carry a first aid kit, tubes, tyre levers, a compressor, camelbak of water etc. 150 km is a very short trip for me. A real day riding is 500 + km, and a long trip is 1000 +. Ambulance lol. No NHS here. I have a private medical aid which will cover it. If I am able to call an ambulance, or some passerby can. If you are not conscious what usually happens is some darkie steals your valuables. Very common for accident victims to be robbed. But why let such fears run your life. I just take my chances and spin the wheel.
