Posted: 20:03 - 29 Sep 2012 Post subject: Aprilia RS Extrema Problems! HELP!? |
 |
|
Hi there , i have just purchased a 98 Extrema/Chesterfield off a somewhat dodgy person......
now, it has quite a few things that appear to be wrong and would really like some help PLEASE!!
when i got on it it idled fine in neutral but when i put it in 1st gear it feels like the clutch doesnt fully disengage when the lever is pulled in, its trying to stall, i can be rolling along in 1st at say 5-10mph with the clutch pulled in and pull on the throttle and it still accelerates slightly
-
- Any ideas on that and how to fix that?
-
-
Also the gears seem incredibaly hard to change, i had to litteraly put my foot under the peg and use my hole leg to get it to click up into second, and i didnt even get into 3rd when the starter relay(which is burnt a constant connection) started clunking and i pulled over, (at which point my battery died)
now i have charged my battery and i noticed that the wiring was FUCKED
he hadnt earthed the live from the battery to the frame so the entire current was going through a TINY little wire which has obvious melted and caused a number of problems. i can deal with the wiring sie of it but is my gearbox fucked? i had noticed that he had put a new chain on thats SOOO tight it only has about half inch of slack, can this affect gear changing?
any advice on these issues are greatly appreciated
thanks

Hi
Clutch is adjusted in 2 places.
Slacken the cable off a bit at the bars. In the middle of the clutch cover you will find a small plug; remove this. Underneath you will find a screw and locknut. Slacken off the locknut and back the screw off a bit. Then tighten the screw until you feel resistance and then back it off a gnats (forgotten the exact amount, try half a turn), hold it steady and tighten the locknut up. Put the plug back in.
Then adjust at the lever normally.
Also check that it does have gearbox oil in it.
Given the age that is around the cutoff between the Rotax 123 and 122 engines which have very different ignition systems. With the 123 the engine should run with pretty much no charging system as the ignition wiring is separate from the rest of the bike beyond the kill switch wire.
All the best
