I've taken my bike in for a long overdue service. I supplied all the bits as I had long intended to do it myself and have never got round to it.

I've given the bloke the stuff and the bike and am just going to let him charge what he wants as I need it done, but whether I use him again will be on whether he decideds to overcharge, so I need to let you lot know what is reasonable.

He works out of a car garage, and doesnt even have equipment to change a tyre, but should be quite capable of what I want done, so I'd like you lot to give me a labour cost for each bit of the job just in case he doesnt get everything done.

oil and filter change
air filter change
spark plugs change
chain and sprockets replace

I've tasked him to do the chain and sprockets as top priority and the others if he has time.

What would be a reasonable bill ? What would be daylight robbery?

If his bill is closer to robbery I may use someone less conveniently near by in future.

Thats probably 2 hours labour assuming its not faired and/or stupidly awkward to work on (it'd take me about 3 with no air tools etc), so depending what rates are probably anywhere between 70 & 120/30 quids.

he only had time to do the chain and sprockets, and the oil and filter

and charged £50 so that sounds ok

i might have a go with the plugs and air filter myself

air filter is simple on most bikes, spark plugs aren't difficult just be careful you don't crossthread them, or do them up too tight. also inspect your old plugs to get an idea of how your bike is running, you want them to be a nice brown colour

2 Hour's is more than enough for a service unless of course your having something like, front fork service etc...
