I had a KMX for a couple of years, and a mate had a DT. They're both good fun, simple and easy to get along with. All will be pretty old now though, so if i was buying one now, i'd just get whichever one I could find in decent condition.

Try having a look at th Yamaha WR125X, I bought one new six months ago and its great. Whenever I park up next to other 125s I just think I'm glad I didn't get one of those.

And they think 'this tosser spent far too much on a slower 125'.

I'm with matt, unless your only concern in life is fuel consumption, get a 2-stroke 125, EVERY...SINGLE...TIME.

The DT125X is supermoto and 2-stroke if you want that though. Not sure how easy it is to derestrict mind you, unlike the KMX, which even has a working KIPS valve.

Quite the reverse they look on enviously at my gleaming full size bike. I get endless interest in my bike when I park up from learners and practiced bikers alike.

It's probably pity Laughing

I do it sometimes when people seem too proud of their own shit. Gives them a big chufty, and everyone's laughing at them.

With smaller engines I am biased towards 2 strokes simply because they make more of the small capacity.

Yes the 4 stroke will be better on fuel and possibly more reliable, but bikes are meant to be fun and in smaller engine sizes 2 strokes do that better.

Dt used to be easy to deristrict just a case of unplugging a wire behind the clocks somewhere. Can't remember off hand as its years since I had mine,

Yeah, a mate had one, and I'm sure he told me this was the procedure, but he refused to do it in case it killed his engine (when in reality it would just let it work like a 2-stroke should Very Happy )

With the older DT's at least, i'm pretty sure the powervalve was non functional, so you just had to set it in one position (either fully closed for low rev torque, fully open for the full screamer but nothing low down, or somewhere in between...).

The older DT was indeed restricted by having the power valve pegged and was minus the YPVS

Same engine as the TZR125

I still reckon the very early non YPVS engine (As fitted to RD125LC) was a better engine though, especially if the TZR unit is minus its power valve servo.
