I thought I'd join in the fun and show a bit of what I've got going on so you can all berate me/poke fun/take the piss/point and laugh etc. Meh, whatever...

Anyway, here it is. Tax disc ran out in march (1983) so I had to trailer it home. A genuine 1 registered keeper machine.

https://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/pdg555/CB250/cb250left.jpg

And this is what I'm aiming for.

https://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/pdg555/CB250/PICT0690_zpsc55700c9.jpg

Now, in true denial fashion - it's not as bad as it looks.

Ok, it's what it looks like - a tired shabby machine with a load of incorrect parts. Just about all of the parts I need are in the back of the car just to the left of the photo though. I don't have original silencers for it, but I have a pair that won't look too out of place and will work for the time being.

It's had a later (G5 maybe) front end put on, which happens to be almost identical to the original K type, it's close enough that the TLS drum brake and mudguard will bolt in/on with no trouble anyway as will the fork shrouds.

Truthfully though, it only needs 5 things doing to it, 6 if you count the MOT:
1. Finish stripping it down.
2. Clean it all up.
3. Fix what needs fixing.
4. Paint.
5. Reassemble with proper bits.

Budget is a tenner, timescale is a week Laughing

What I'm really hoping is that it'll be back on the road ready for next spring at the latest. It'll be nice to give it a "happy 30 years off the road" anniversary ride. Cool

I'll update the thread here as and when I do anything to it, which may be quite often, or might not be until December.

Very nice indeed, looking forward to seeing this Very Happy. AFAIK these are generally regarded as probably the best of the CB250 models made.

Personally I'd love a CB360 G5.

Did anyone spot the fact there are 2 cb's on that trailer?

Bargain, even if I say so myself. Back of the discovery was full up with parts.

Don't follow too closely, I'm as lost as you are...

Bear in mind, I got it last December. Since then I've taken it off the trailer, rubbed off some dirt, started it and put it indoors.

Oh, I took the tank and seat off and looked at the wiring too.

It could take some time.

I've got parts to do one original spec bike.

The other one will be 'something else' but I haven't made up my mind what yet.... That cafe isn't a bad looker and something like that is a consideration.

I need to sort reg docs for the less complete one as well. Shouldn't be too much hassle but not high on priority list right now. plus, I've got an XL250 to do something with as well.

probably worth mentioning that the style of bike above is more of a brat style (Japan origins) than of a cafe racer. so annoying when they do that..

more ideas..... Whistle

I very rarely take notice of the various categories or classifications of bike styles - there's so much cross over anyway. To me, it's either nice or it isn't Laughing

I've done loads on it over the last couple of days, I'll take some pictures tomorrow.

In the meantime, I shall describe...

I got the tyres out of the shed, the guy I bought it off gave me a pair of brand spankers (still wrapped from being posted to his local tyre place) and confirmed they are in fact tyres. They are black, they are round, and they made of rubber. They must be fantastic quality too as they are 'kings tyres' - good enough for a king, good enough for me Laughing Seriously, they'll do. I'm probably not going to be putting a lot of miles on it when it's done anyway and if I don't get on with them I'll just swap them out.

I had a quick looky through the various boxes of bits that came with it so I can make up some sort of 'to get' list. This currently stands at:

Probably an inner tube - one of them is fine, the other might be fixable though.

I can't see offhand anything else I need............

That's about as far as I've got really. I've been doing some other vaguely related stuff like getting my sand blasting cabinet ready to go so when I've got it stripped down I can clean it properly. There's going to be a hell of a lot of cleaning to do too.

Right then, time for a bit of an update...

I mentioned about putting the drum brake back on this, so here it is.

https://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/pdg555/CB250/hubb4.jpg

This is half way through getting the rim off. The rim is a bit buggered to say the least, especially inside. It would probably be serviceable with a rechrome etc. but that's not the route I'm taking with this. I'm going to be putting the rim off the disc brake wheel onto this hub once it's all cleaned up. Unfortunately for me, the spokes are dead - I got 7 out without snapping. Another thing for the shopping list.

The hydraulic master cylinder is not happy at all...

https://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/pdg555/CB250/mastcyl.jpg
https://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/pdg555/CB250/mastcylin.jpg

Never mind.

Some good news is the caliper seems ok, I might be able to recoup a little money by flogging it on. It'll need new seals I imagine by whoever buys it Wink The brake lever will be going up for sale too, must be worth something to someone...

https://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/pdg555/CB250/caliper.jpg

And that's pretty much all I've done apart from a bunch of staring at it.

More to come sometime.

Another update!

If I keep this up it'll be done within the next year...

Tonight I have been mainly rubbing my pipes.

https://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz267/pdg555/CB250/downpipes.jpg

That's pretty much before and after, although I don't think the picture really picks up how dull they were and how shiny they are now.

I'm quite pleased with them anyway.
