Jan13 new licence rules - but I'm over 24?

For my CBT the guy told me the new rules wouldn't really affect me because I'm 24.

I just thought I'd check here....

I'm 24, I intend to do my test on my own bike, a suzuki GN125, which has 'A2' next to it in this list here:

Does that have any relevance with the new rulings?

Basically, if I do my tests on my 'A2'(???) GN125, and I do the tests after the change in the rulings, as a 24 year old, what happens?

Of course I'll be trying to get it out of the way before new year, but I'm just curious anyway. Mainly about the 24 years old thing that my CBT instructor mentioned.

The new rules DO effect you.
Its a bit of presumption on his part that they dont.
Most over 21s these days do a DAS course to get a licence. From Jan the DAS age goes up to 24, so over 24's testing under DAS wont be effected. every-one else will be.
New rules apply to every one, regardless of age, IF they dont want or aren't eligible to test under DAS rules.
Which means, after January, self training & DIYing the tests on your own 125 will only get you an A1 125 'only' licence irrespective of how old you are. Could be 17 or 70... new rules apply to all.

May as well be lazy and ask what the 125 'only' licence is all about?

Clearly it's self-explanatory, but then, for example, what do I need to do to ride something bigger? Sit the tests again, do it with an instructor, etc?

Maybe I'll just fork out and do a DAS course......

As far as I understand (and I'm not saying I do, as until recently I too thought it wouldn't effect anyone over a certain age) you will have to take the test again on a bigger bike, if that is what you want to ride.

Pretty much as Mike said.

If your going to do your test on the 125 then you best get it done before January and the new directive comes into force otherwise you will be stuck on a 125cc bike until you do another selection of tests, which you will probably have to go through a bike school and use their bikes. If your intending to do the test next year I would just go DAS since you will be old enough.
