For those who do not yet know - the new series of Red Dwarf (series X) starts on October 4th on Dave.

I predict it will be unfunny and full of rehashed references to past themes.

Same as the Christmas specials.

Chris Barrie - stick to old bike shows or massive machines, they were interesting.
Danny Jules - stick to smacking binmen on the nose.
Robert Llewelyn - stick to Scrapheap. You know it makes sense.
Craig Charles - stick it... well, don't. You got in trouble last time for that didn't you...?

I believe that they went back to the old format of filming in front of a studio audience (unlike the xmas specials) so hopefully funnier.

Any idea who's penned it this time?

It went downhill when Grant and Naylor split up and Llewellyn was given a pad and a biro.

5 and 6 were the best. The no audience ones were rubbish, but then I think 7 was audience and that was pants too. Canned laughter FTW.

Also, I preferred the low tech approach rather than after it took off and they started using CGI and got into digital remastering etc.

I'll still watch it even if it's pants.

hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Hard to recapture old glories.
It remains one of my all time favourite sitcoms and the first 5 series are excellent

Cat: Don't fish swim south for the winter?
Kryten: No, sir. That's birds.
Cat: Birds swim south? How can they breathe?

It might be good. Stranger things have happened.

Only two come to mind: the spontaneous combustion of the mayor of Warsaw in 1687, and that time in 16th century Bordeaux when it rained herring..

I secretly can't wait for it to come out, while I verbally say it's going to be shit and will never live up to the genius of the original series.

Quick, think of good episodes before you go mad!!

Holoship
Kryten: They've taken Mr. Rimmer! Sir, they've taken Mr. Rimmer!
Cat: Quick — let's get out of here before they bring him back!

Quarantine
You want to fly on a magic carpet to see the king of the Potato People and plead with him for your freedom, and you're telling me you're all completely sane?

Back to Reality
Duane Dibbley: What the hell happened to my teeth? I could open beer bottles with my overbite!

Legion
Rimmer: [pretending to be interested in art to impress Legion] Now, this 3-demensional sculpture in particular is quite exquisite. Its simplicity, its bold, stark lines. Pray, what do you call it?
Legion: The light switch.
Rimmer: The light switch?
Legion: Yes.
Rimmer: I couldn't buy it, then?
Legion: Not really. I need it to turn the lights on and off.

Gunmen of the Apocalypse
Arnold Rimmer: Step up to red alert.
Kryten: Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb.

Looking forward to it hope they've learned their lesson!

Quote:
Speaking about the new six-part series in a recent interview, former Corrie star Charles said the new series will go back to the show's roots.

He said: 'We've stopped being an action adventure series and gone back to being more of a sitcom.
'We're now back to being four clowns in a room, each trying to be funnier than the next man.'

Meanwhile, writer Doug Naylor has hinted that fans may encounter Holly or Hilly and the missing ending to season eight in upcoming episodes.

White Hole probably, purely for the sketch when the engines first die and they use Kryten as a battering ram, also anything Talkie Toaster related.
